Such a waist of real news, that's probably a clever publicity stunt to get people to buy the album (didn't know the movie soundtrack sold well enough to get interest in a new album). I saw a little clip of it mentioned in EW where they have a picture of 80s Alvin next to him saying "Alvin leaves the Chipmunks. No big loss: everyone knows Theodore is the secret star." - PG.16, issue #1016 Oct 17, 08.

What I do like is the fake news idea. Giving some background character development to characters you wouldn't normally think have social disorders and personal problems that affect how their cartoons are made. It's still fake news but sadly it's of a franchise I would be happy to hear that was breaking up. XD

That is so cute and I am excited about a new Chipmunk album but it makes no sense. Alvin didn't sing lead on every song. In fact, there were many times throughout the years that Simon or Theodore sang lead vocals. I can see getting a new vocalist for their three part harmonies but I'm sure the other two can take up the reigns for any leads.
