The second one is a tad more gory, and the scene where the 'Predalien' (
I know, I know
) attacks the pregnant women in the maternity ward is particularly disturbing, as is the scene in which the young boy and his dad out hunting in the forest get facehuggered.
HOWEVER: That's about as good as it gets.
The film is full of annoying, one-dimensional 'teen' characters - including the obligatory team of two brothers, i.e. the younger one at High School and the older bad-boy-made-good who's just got out of jail and is the nominal hero figure (you know the drill :yawn

. And of course younger brother and High School bully are - inevitably - both after the same dumb blonde (once again - you know the drill  :yawn

.
Another major problem that the film has is that some unfathomable reason, the director decided to have all the creature action scenes take place in virtual darkness and in pouring rain.
The upshot? Two black creatures who look very similar battling it out in almost total darkness with the rain coming down - so you can actually see very little of what's going on, and the end result is a mess.
I thought the much-maligned first AvP movie was (on balance) actually better than the sequel "AvP: Requiem".
