Alien Prequel

I don't see the need for a prequel, some things are best left to the imagination.

Now a SEQUEL directed by Scott would be a great idea, so why go the prequel route?
 
As long as it is directed by Ridley Scott then I'm fine with it.

After all those awful Alien-v- Predator crap that they've been churning out... They need something to clean up the Alien franchise.
 
Get ready for a Cert. 12... Chest bursting fun for all the family.

A prequel is pointless, as we all know what happens next. It might also tarnish the first Alien film in the process.

I think moving the story on, or better yet, away from the lamer movies and forging a new path, would've been more interesting.
 
I tend to agree but if Scott's on board then i'm happy for it to go ahead anyway.

I'm just glad fox haven't hired some hack mtv music video director to make a new Alien film.
 
I'm a big fan of the Alien films, 1 and 2 being my favourites....lost it's way a bit after that....but i think a prequel would be a good idea, especially if Ridley Scott is at the helm...at least he knows what an Alien movie is all about :)
 
Certainly did. 3 was appalling and 4, well that was nothing like the series was. AVP and AVP:R were diabolical, especially the latter. Terrible shots in the dark and just noise.

Talk about trash a franchise.
 
Yes, very disappointed with 3...killing off Newt and Hicks was a bad idea as was the whole "prison colony"...and then to kill Ripley off ???
4 was very bad, didn't like Winona Ryder in it at all (bad actress) and the storyline was just poo.

Maybe Ridley can bring back the the excitement and adrenaline rush of 1 and 2 with this prequel ? :)

Oh, and Ridley is definitely not directing this one, only producing. They hav not signed a director as yet.
 
The first half is OK. I enjoyed exploring the colony, getting Newt's autopsy, Ripley getting laid etc. I loved how the dog chest-burst scene was juxtaposed with the funeral speech. I liked the criminals and how Ripley reacted to them. The one who boasts about raping and killing umpteen women, only to be told, "Then I must make you feel very frightened". There's a lot of good stuff in the first half.

It gets exponentially bad the closer it gets to the end.

Anyway, I prefer SF to Horror and don't want things "left to my imagination". I'd love to see what happened with the craft they found in the first film. It's probably easier to make a good prequel than a good sequel, partly because of what the later films did with the time line.
 
I watched Alien 3 very recently after a few years, I commented in another thread about not realizing how bad it was. The one liners are woeful.

I much preferred Resurrection tbh, after the original and Aliens. Obviously it was the franchise which needed resurrecting as well as Ripley after 3, and it neeRAB resurrecting again after the AvP films.

No issues with a prequel from me :thup:
 
The Directors Cut of Alien 3 is decent i thought, made a bit more sense :)

But nothing will compare too the first two movies. Neverr but ill give it a watch.
 
The first two are the only real ones, when you think of trilogies and the like even The Godfather fell flat on the third.

I liked Resurrection, but the first two are classics.
 
I dunno what to expect from an Alien prequel, the franchise has been very variable in quality. The original is a masterpiece of suspense, the second one is very overrated, the third one is underrated, Resurrection never reached its full potential.....I've never seen either of the Alien vs. Predator films.
 
Resurrection is really terrible, apart from the scene where they go into the room with all the failed Ripley clones and she burns all of them.
 
From what I've read, Scott is directing and both Weaver & Hurt are on board. Quite how they're going to film a prequel with actors 30 years older than they were is beyond me! If the film doesn't deal too much with the Aliens and more with the politics of the era then it might just work as a good prequel, but I'm very suspicious.
