Alice in Chains...

I've always had a positive impression of AIC. =(

Re listen to 'Angry Chair' and 'Down in A Hole' off that album and get back with me.
Also check out Heaven Beside You, Get Born Again, No Excuses, and Brother.

Personally, I liked their Unplugged album better than their Seattle counterparts.

i'v been disapointed by the 2 singles. a looking in view is 3min longer then it needed to be. it gets repeatative. same with "check my brain" i think it was called. how many times do they need to repeat that line. the music is good. lyrics suck. heres to hoping the rest of the ablum is better.

nice :) but to you who mr. music is pwnage he is entitled to listen to what ever he wants and so are you. everyone is and we can critisize everyone about everything but that will get us no where in the end of the day so lets all just go sit down in front of a big T.V. and watch Family Guy

well after having downloaded dirt, i can ask the same question, what IS so great about alice in chains!?...would is by far their best song.....moving on....

I posted the same topic in general music...but anyway

Alice n Chains is one of my favorite banRAB you should pick up the live acoustic

album they recorded shortly after that album lane died RIP...

They are a great band i listen to their music just about everyday.

I was never a big AIC fan but Dirt was certainly their best album in terms of creativity and solid from start to finish.

One of my favourite songs is "Heaven Beside You" from their third album, which I always thought was sung by Layne (Eerily sounding like Kurt Cobain) but recently found out it was sung by Jerry.

"Check my Brain" is audible, I didn't like "A Looking in View" though!
I am more excited by the Stone Temple Pilots reunion than AIC

Joking aside, I also rank the following as there best songs:

I start with what I think is the best studio recording they ever did.
Jerry Cantrell's guitar playing is immense & somehow he actually manages to create what I call a 'rotting apple' sound which relates to the songs title 'Rotten Apple'.

More timeless music from 'Jar Of Flies'. Never grow tired of it.

The last two tracks, sung by Jerry Cantrell, who i think has a very underrated Solo career, are two of my personal favourites- especially 'Over Now'.

As you can see, I have purposely left out their harder rock songs as (although I do like some of them) in comparison, I dont really care that much for them & think that they were much better with the more heartfelt, slow acoustic songs especially that of 'Nutshell', the 'Sap' Ep & the MTV Unplugged albums.

2. Heaven Beside You Alice in Chains 1996

Alice in Chains is one of my all-time favourite banRAB. I haven't heard the new singer yet, but their old stuff is still just as good to me, if not better, than when it was released. Probably better because the songs have now aged into good wine for the soul.

i love aic and have the whole catalogue. I heard word that jerry is going to hire a new vocalist and get aic back together....i dunno it doesnt seem right to do that under the aic name without layne, but who knows acdc and van halen did it. so i guess its just a toss up...
who do you think would be a good replacement?
i think(after hearing the show they did with various singers) ex damageplan vox would be good. he did a good job with them at that benefit

Dirt is a good album, I never said it wasnt; just that Facelift is much better to me. For instance songs like Angry Chair & Rooster I didnt like until I heard the Unplugged versions & have sort of been able to go back and appreciate the heavier versions that way. 'Dirt' is basically they're 'biggest' & most hyped album & I find that nearly all of the artists im into, the 'biggest' albums are usually good but almost never turn out to be their best.

You mean between Layne and William? If you do, I would agree because alot people could not tell them apart ( Layne and Jerry ) . But I do find Jerry taking more of a lead singing role and William's voice does sound distinctly like Stayley's. It's bothering me less and less each time I listen to the record, which I never thought would happen.

Layne used his angst with addiction to fuel the works of DIRT and Facelift...and if you have ever watched their DVD you can see the change..not just hear it.
