Albums You're Not Digging

goldfrapp_head_first_300.jpg

The first album Felt Mountain is such a joy, blending heartfelt soul vocals with original electro, but this is a world away. They've done some great pop tunes on all their albums but this is just dire, really flat songs which go nowhere. Deleted it straight away which is disappointing.

I downloaded that too and it's just not my thing. I'm still trying to figure out my music tastes but they don't make any sense. I'm listening to some gorgeous Progressive House.. kind of in the mood for some smooth jazz.. but may end up listening to ...'s Somebody Save Me E.P. which is Depressive Black Metal. I wonder if I have musical bipolar disorder

I think the point is that the stronger the language you use to show you're disdain for an album the more obligated you are to substantiate what you're asserting.

If I say, "well, Pink Moon just isn't my cup of tea" the natural reaction is, "well, to each his oen", or, "different strokes for different strokes", but if your going to make bold assertions about guitar playing ability and song writing capabilities that could easily be shot to hell ny any one of us who are familiar with the artist and the respective album...substantiate what your asserting, especially if what you're asserting happens to be particularly abrasive. I won't even comment about trash talking about certain non-active merabers that are no longer here to defend their opinions.

I'm a huge fan of their early 90s output but man do they sound bad when they try to slow it down for an entire album. Mac's voice sounRAB awful this high in the mix...

I've never heard it all the way through but from the songs I've heard, everything you said seems pretty accurate.....

Not what I expected....sort of hollow. Can't get into it at all. Doubt it will grow on me. Hope I like the rest of their discography a little better.
And dear GOD that cover art is fugly.

My Disco-Paradise

The first real dud I've ever gotten from this particular blog, which is usually very reliable. This is supposed to be math rock, but it's just incredibly boring and unoriginal. Buh-bye.

I disagree pretty strongly on the Young Americans one. Except for Diamond Dogs I consider Bowie's whole 70s discography to be untouchable. If you're gonna go after something Bowie, go after Tin Machine, good god.

A lot of people do unfortunately.

Anyway.

Proof that it doesn't matter how mind blowingly untalented you are (and this guy had NONE), grab an accoustic guitar, sing juvenile "syrabolic" hippie lyrics like a sedated retard and you're sure to get a following with the indie folk fag crowd. Does shunning talent ever get tiresome for these people? Apparently not.

An absolute disaster of a record. This guy can't do anything even half competently, cannot play the guitar, cannot construct anything remotely similar to a melody, and he has a voice like a dying moose. Seriously, Woodie Gutrhie put more effort into his work even during his whole "hey I'm gonna start intentionally writing songs as if they were made by a f*cking one year old" period.

Worst musician of all time.

And before Ethan returns to the forum only to respond with some hideously pathetic attempt at a troll by ranting on about some album he can't even spell the name of properly let alone actually took the time to listen to (which isn't possible because any hint of electric guitar or actual excitement makes him physically ill), yes, I have listened to this album, it really is that damn bad.

Yeah, don't really care how much you hate it, learn how to use different worRAB to express yourself. We advocate freedom of speech here to a point, we will not condone intolerance or abusive language towarRAB anyone.

These things have a way of provoking flame wars when it's really unnecessary to begin with. Watch your language.

I decided to give this another listen today. THEY'RE STILL BORING! I hate how they lost their math. it's too indie for me. I want antidotes back.

Wow really? It definately doesn't compare to You Forgot it in People but i really enjoy it. As far as a well flowing album I could agree that it doesn't fit very well together.

Yeah ITAOTS is one of my favourite albums, but this one doesn't do anything for me. The songwriting isn't that bad(it's not that good either), but I really hate all the "random noise"(don't really know how else to describe it) between some of the songs and fuzziness gets SO old after a while.(I think it works on ITAOTS because it's only on a few songs.)

What exactly do you like about it? Idk, maybe you like it for all the reasons I hate it?(Other than my opinions about the songwriting.)

Just out of interest did you give it 5 listens because it was hyped to fuck and you thought there was something wrong with you if you don't like it or is that the usual time you give an album before deciding it wasn't for you?

Not that I mean to sound like i'm getting at you at all, i'm just curious thats all. :)

To be honest the lyrics comment was something thrown in there because I expected a lot of "what about the lyrics?" comments, honestly I haven't really paid attention to the lyrics because it's too hard to get past the super awfulness of the music.

Rush actually make good music, so they can sing about whatever the hell they want. Not even prog fans really care too much about the lyrics so that's a terrible thing to go on a rant about.

I don't consider lyrics to be very imporant to music, they can make for a more engaging musical experience but it's not necessary, the music is what matters, which means that if music can stand on it's own without very good lyrics, it's still good music. Good lyrics can't save bad music composition.

Drake is just boring to me, why should I invest any interest in his lyrics or what they are about? Is that really gonna change my opinion of the music being horribly executed? No.
