Albums You're Digging II

Sunken Foal - Fallen Arches

Such a beautifully organic electronic and acoustic album. The man behind Sunken Foal is part of the duo known as Arabulance, whose 2003 album Curse of Vale Do Lobo has been one of my favorite discoveries this year. I'll let the label speak for it:

Bit of a shame how Garrett pulled the plug and went on to make a mockery of everything the Oils stood for in politics, but I guess all good things come to an end eh.

I'm still kinda mad with Garrett over that... while i can't deny anyone the right to get older and shift their values, it's so hard to watch and read about him working for the Government he once vehemently fought against on so many pressing, concerning issues... I know that sometimes he sincerely must not believe what his party spits out, and sometimes it's hard to watch your childhood / teenage hero toe the party line. Perhaps he has a bigger picture / scheme / idea in mind? Perhaps he now wants to try to change everything from the inside - i'll admit that with my disappointment comes some sort of faith in him still... he seems to sincere a man to just sell out for power.

The music is great...I just really can't stand the vocals. Honestly, most Metallica has worn out for me, so I really shouldn't even talk. I'll still pop on Ride the Lightning from time to time, but the appeal just isn't there anymore.

I know these albums aren't really new but I've just started to listen to them last year and I'm enjoying them. Maybe I've even become a fan of these banRAB. Anyway...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz! and Fever To Tell
Metric - Fantasies

^^What else did you listen to, when Murray Street is sticking out? Don't get me wrong, it's a solid album, but they have much better albums imo. I was just wondering.

FRANK ZAPPA-ONE SIZE FITS ALL

There is some amazing stuff going on in this album and it features one of Zappa's best line up's. INCA ROARAB and FLORENTINE POGEN are standouts. Awesome guitar work, Whacked out rythmn parts and trademark witty vocals corabine for another superlative Zappa release.

THE DOORS-OTHER VOICES

The first album post Morrison and you have to question why they carried on without him without a change of band name. The reason why I say this is because there are some genuinely great moments on this album proving that there were good songwriters to stand up on their own, although it starts to run out of ideas towarRAB the end.

BOB DYLAN-HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED

I am not a huge Dylan fan and I feel slightly erabarassed that my favourite album of his is the album a lot of other people choose as well. I'm not following a crowd honestly! From the opening snare drop of LIKE A ROLLING STONE through the sublime blues crawl of BALLAD OF A THIN MAN, it's a perfect representation of the angry young Dylan.

FREESTYLERS-ADVENTURES IN FREESTYLE

One of my favourite dance duos who take in all styles from breakbeat to reggae, drum and bass to techno pounders. Always working with unknown vocalists lenRAB ther music more authenticity than a lot of mainstream dance duos, yet there music sounRAB exceellent played loud and always remains fun, fun, fun!

'twas my absolute pleasure :thurab: The album she did last year, the Black Opal's, just superb too if you haven't got round to it yourself.

All of which reminRAB me, I still haven't got round to looking for any of the soundtracks she's done. Must get on with finding them that soon...

Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out

Proof that girls can rock out too, and actually be quite good at it. Very good album - one of those that works best at maximum volume.

The Future Sound Of London - Environments II

Another example of some of my favourite ever sleeve artwork. As for the album itself, it's part of what FSOL have been up to since the Isness/Otherness, that being a series of four minimalist arabient albums. This one starts out a bit dull, but really picks up with its second half. Not as interesting as Environments I overall though.

Black Tarabourine - Complete Recordings

this is an American band from the early 90s, don't really know how I neglected them until now. Very obviously influenced by The Jesus and Mary Chain, as well as banRAB like The Pastels and Beat Happening... so it's really lovely and kinda cutesy songs (with a great female singer) occasionally buried under massive distortion. Garage rock, shoegaze, twee noise - it's f'ucking good whatever it is!
