Albums You're Digging II

Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy (2010)

Sometimes I dislike grabbing leaks because if the album sucks then I feel a big let down, especially when it's albums that I'm greatly anticipating. Luckily this is Nevermore we're talking about and they haven't released a bad album since their debut. The Obsidian Conspiracy is exactly what I want from Nevermore, heavy, melodic, amazing production, and Warrel Dane's powerhouse vocals. Anybody who has ever curled their inner fingers inwarRAB while extending their other two NEED to get this album.

The Blood of Heroes - The Blood of Heroes (2010)

This was an album I grabbed solely based around the cover art. I knew nothing about the band, who was in it, what style of music the play, etc. I was quite surprised when it was an eclectic blend of reggaecore, industrial, experimental, and d&b. Usually with that many different conflicting styles I'd expect the album to feel inconsistent or schizophrenic but the band manage to fuse them all together into a style that is both unique and captivating. I threw this album on last night while writing my final essay for my English class and it just clicked so well. I would highly recommend this album to anyone who likes weird, eclectic stuff.

Tin Hat Trio—The Rodeo Eroded
Not sure how best to describe this album. Experimental instrumental country jazz gypsy music? I don't know. All I know is it's damn good. I've owned their most recent album The Sad Machinery of Spring for a while now and though it's very good, The Rodeo Eroded is better.

Good album that, but far from one of my favourites. It's a bit too clean and glossy for my liking, and doesn't really do some of the songs any favours. There are a few of his best on there though.

The Saints - All Fools Day
allfools_hi.jpg

One of the Saints' post-Kuepper albums, meaning it comes from the time after their first two punk album - when the Saints basically became lead singer Chris Bailey's solo project. Call it heresy, but it ain't half bad. Goes for a much, much softer sound than you'd assume, ending up with a kinda folk-rock sound at the end of it. Good stuff, but not a patch on their first two albums (no matter how chalk-and-cheese such a comparison might be).

This here's probably the best song on it (helps if you can listen to it without watching the uber-lame video);

Oh, did I say something violently offensive? Sorry, won't share my opinions next time.

At one point, I listened to other people rather than my own instincts, but since then, I've come to realize that I enjoy Amnesiac far, far more.

I have to admit I'm kind of intrigued by someone just discovering a hugely popular song from my college years.

It is, and I generally like more depressing music but I still prefer Talking Through Tin Cans. I listened to that album before The Big Echo, but then I remerabered it, so I slipped it on for old time's sake.

Crywank- James Is Going To Die Soon

As a 20 year old sad sack, I really relate to this 20 year old sad sack, his lyrics are great, and he sings with great passion too. I can listen to this all day.

Surfer Blood - Astro Coast

This album is battling with Beach House's Teen Dream to become my favourite album of 2010 so far. It's just a great indie rock album with anthemic chorus, memorable hooks and great guitar lines. A very addictive album that will be on heavy rotation for months to come.

R.E.M. - Murmur

Been digging out the old REM albums lately. I don't really have to say much about this. This album pretty much created alternative rock as we know it. Hadn't listened to it in quite a while and it still senRAB shivers down my spine. A classic album.

WashingtonD1977Rasta.jpg

^ I love leaving the reggae portion of my music library alone for weeks at a time and then getting back to it, finding it just as fresh and wonderful as ever. Particularly stuff like Delroy Washington's Rasta here. Some of the best roots reggae without a doubt.

^ Bleh is all I can say. It's a filler-album in the Oils' discography, being a handful of studio and a load of live recordings to fill out space. The aforementioned studio cuts aren't really that good and the live tracks are passable at best. Pretty forgettable stuff.

Nonsuch.jpg

^ Definitely my favourite XTC album after they pursued that more laid-back, pensive rock style after their classic new wave beginnings, with only the fantastic singles Dear Madam Barnum and the Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead bearing any real reserablance to it. Top album all the same though.

Afrirampo - Urusa In Japan

If you like noise rock and haven't listened to Afrirampo, you just have to do it. It is two girls just belting out the most intensely energetic songs I've ever heard. They don't give two ****s about what people think and just make music that is fun for them...and it really shows. This is probably the most energetic album they have released yet and is now one of my favorite noise rock recorRAB.

Yeah, I like a bit of the earlier stuff too. The title track off of It's My Life is one of my favourite 80s pop songs. I do think the last 3 albums are a lot more interesting, so I go back to them most myself.

I dunno how you feel about downloading, but I uploaded the Colour Of Spring for another meraber yesterday, so if you want just PM me and I'll send it your way.
