Just finished listening to, and very much enjoying, Untitled # 23 by the Church...

Now i am enjoying Monster by REM, one of their most underrated, most FUN sounding albums...

The Ditty Bops - s/t

A kind of throwback pop duo, it's all in the name. The music is full of charm; it's something you can sing along to.

Why?-Alopecia

Finally checked these guys out after all of the chatter about them on this board. Should have done it a lot sooner, this album is burrowing its way into my skull bit by bit. I downloaded Eskimo Snow as well but I haven't even gotten around to it, I keep going back to Alopecia.

I don't feel like I'm particularly familiar enough with black metal in general to recommend something; What I would say is that I really love music that gets better in headphones, and this album has that in spades. I'd recommend it 'kind of', but it's 1.2 hours long and I'd hate to waste somebody's time on a genre I'm pretty unfamiliar with. If you want a link, let me know.

To call Vintersorg a black metal band is kind of a misnomer. They definitely started out that way, but they have really evolved their sound over the last 10 years or so. Think of this album more like Sigh's Imaginary Sonicscape, familiar with black metal, but never outright sounding like it.

Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm Of a Dying Sun

^ Re my DCD obsession of the last few weeks. Definitely among my favourites of theirs. The opener, Anywhere Out Of the World is already one of my favourite pieces of music ever ever ever

that made me laugh so hard.

here is some of the stuff that has been on quite a bit for me:
PULSE - Pink Floyd
Images and WorRAB - Dream Theater
Over The Years And Through The WooRAB - Queens of the Stone Age
With Love and Squalor - We Are Scientists

(1981)

Kraftwerk's last great accomplishment (not counting 'the Mix'), an album that Juan Atkins (one of the inventors of techno, his partner Derrick May unforgettably described techno as 'like Kraftwerk and Parliament stuck in a lift') admits having been a huge influence on him, listening from the outer suburbs of Detroit.

Not that every Kraftwerk album isn't full of signature tunes but this record has the best ones, their delivery is liquid and it's a huge step forward technologically. It sounRAB like they are rising to meet the new challenges of Japan's prodigious electropop upstarts (and electronic innovators in their own right) Yellow Magic Orchestra, not to mention the many synth-pop followers who learned their trade through Kraftwerk albums and at this time were dominating the charts.

This is bloody brilliant. Unfortunately it's one of those albums I acquired from my old man and it's not tagged although I have the back cover so I got to get typing!

3) The Libertines - Up the Bracket

They get a rough time all together, and in my opinion, its totally undeserved. This album is near perfect and packed with fun tunes that are intelligent and exciting.

2) Richard Hawley - Coles Corner

At first it sounRAB like boring old music, but it opens up and is a very romantic album, every track of it is perfect.

1) Cribs - Mens neeRAB, Womens neeRAB, Whatever...

I love this album, it has great melodies and great lyrics, as well as being pretty exciting as far as the music goes. Theres just something about it that really captures me every time I hear them.

Thanks, no need unless you've got one handy at a good bitrate (I'm otherwise resourceful). The guy on the other board mentioned he had "tried to avoid the hype" so I immediately thought Pitchfork must be involved. Sure enough, they reviewed the album and it scored 8.2 I think. That might explain the spread. It already has 8 reviews on RYM too, which is a lot for a recent and underground electronic album.
