Albums You're Digging II

the later Whitehouse is so much more structured than their early stuff...great album...i suggest Bird Seed ('Why You Never Became A Dancer' is such a great song)and Right To Kill (as an example of their earlier "sound")

Spiritual Front - Rotten Roma Casino

Spiritual Front's fourth album really goes off the deep dark end of typical neo-folk military pop music and straight into noir pop....or self proclaimed 'Nihilistic Suicide Pop'

this entire album is a delightful journey into the dirty corners of the mind but unlike previous releases is riddled with simple fun upbeat pop melodies...adding a great playfulness intermixed with the dark music and somewhat transgressive lyrics...with just enough dark folk/cabaret to maybe keep the old fans happy.....

there seems to be a lot of argument among fans as to whether this is gold or or worthless....personally i think it's pure gold....and the best they've released yet

Queen - Jazz (1978): Most definitely my favorite Queen album (so far) and a great accomplishment. Really showcases Brian May's spectacular guitar work and makes me regret not getting into Queen sooner.

Danger Mouse and Jemini - Ghetto Pop Life (2003): I knew there was a reason I wanted this so bad. Got it a few days ago and it's been on repeat since. My 3rd favorite Danger Mouse collab. :D

Horse Feathers - WorRAB Are Dead (2006): Pleasant indie-folk album. Doesn't really explore anything too much but it's certainly a soothing listen.

listening to Addicted! by Devin Townsend, finally in its full bitrated goodness.... the music itself is awesome, and now it sounRAB like it's full awesomeness!

I know I've been putting a lot of **** in here but I finally have the ability to download music again and I'm trying to catch up on a lot of what I've missed. So here goes:

Raleigh Moncrief - Corabed Over Chrome EP

Raleigh-Moncrief.jpg

Just some crazy weird experimental hip hop type thing, kinda like HuRABon Mohawke but much, much better.

The Very Best of Ethiopiques

An amazing collection of jazz from Ethiopia. Highly, highly recommended.

The Widdler - Origin

I'm always trying to figure out what kind of electronic music I like besides indie electronica, experimental stuff, and psytrance because I know very little about it. But I've always loved Burial, and I'm developing a pretty big love of dubstep. This is one of my favorites.

Archers of Loaf - Icky Mettle (1994)
00_-_archers_of_loaf_-_1993_-_icky_mettle_front.jpeg

Debut album from the seminal Chapel Hill indie rock band. Probably one of the best crossover indie albums ever, there's no doubt that songs like "Web in Front" and "Backwash" still hold up well. Yeah, it might remind you of Pavement, but everything holRAB up well and these guys could actually play their instruments:

Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesurabarinetransmissionplot (1995)

It's easy to see parallels between Mark Linkous's life and death and forebears such as Elliott Smith. The difference being, of course, that Linkous could actually write worth a damn, and his debut Sparklehorse album more than proves it. In particular "Cow" is just enormous:

So I wnet out and bought Either/Or as my first taste of Elliot Smith. Everything I'd researched said it was his "quintessential" album. I like it, but how does it compare to Figure 8 ?

I really enjoyed it too. I feel like they went for a really refined sound this time. Future Perfect was all about picking out the sounRAB because it was so loud and so fierce. To me Transit Transit feels like they wanted to utilize being quiet and still have it be just as powerful. There is complexity in simplicity and I feel like they did a really good job getting that across.

I love that album. Like you said, still to this day I can go back and listen. "There She Goes, My Beautiful World" is prob my favourite song off it but it's hard to choose just one.

Figure 8 is more inaccessible but much more rewarding. It's also a much more unique release, it's more big and baroque pop and closer to the album Ellitot would've listened to himself and really wanted to make. From a Basement on the Hill would've been that album but he died while making it so we got a really...well we got a different album from what he would've delivered. Anyway I'm digressing, if you're going to get another one I'd grab XO.
