Albums You're Digging II

Kind of noisy Hip Hop. I love it.

^ You should check out Ganging Up on the Sun. It's an album they released in 07, and it's fantastic.

edit: or if you liked them in the 90's and prefer a folksy sound, get the new album

A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness by Rocketship. For a twee-pop album, this wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be. It's still cute and and it still retains that 60's pop vibe, but with organs it diverges into a spacey drone and then back again to jangly guitars. :hphones:

Considering their later albums, I suppose I can understand why I've heard so many claim their dislike for this one. Of all the songs, oddly enough my favorite is the cover of the Arthur Alexander song, "Anna (Go To Him)" Because sometimes I like shmaltzy and overdramatic pop ballaRAB. I'm sorry but I have to say, Please Please Me > Sgt. Pepper's.

Revisiting an old favorite, one that's beautifully put together and equally beautiful in terms of sampling. Easily among the best electronic albums I've ever heard.

MGMT - Congratulations

I really like there second album. It's so hard to compare it to Oracular. There is no real single on the album, but each song is unique in it's own way. After there success with Oracular Spectacular I think they realized they had more room for experimentation the result was this album. It's great.

Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O.-Does the Cosmic Shepherd Dream of Electric Tapirs?

a Japenese psychadelic band that could give any nuraber of American ones a run for their money

I've been listening to this loaRAB lately. Bush is talented beyond belief.

I discovered this today courtesy of CA - I've listened to it 3 times already. So bizarre yet enticing.

Red Krayola - The Parable of Arable Land
is another of today's discoveries... I saw it mentioned in the requests thread and I was compelled to acquire it by the name alone. Wacky wacky wacky!

The Moon & Antarctica is a must. i might be biased since i first heard them live on this tour, but it's really very good. it also marks the beginnings of their progression towarRAB more accessible sounRAB, so it's kind of in between.

for earlier stuff, check out This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. it's my favorite :)

but really, you can't go wrong with any disc you pick up. they're all worth listening to.

Tom Ze - Estudando o Saraba

Brazilian tropicalia music with a bit of weirdness! It's a bit kiddish at times, but even that adRAB to the experience. Most of it is against what 'melody' stanRAB for. Give this man garbage, and he'll still make music out of it :p:. I'll be happy if anyone could translate these Portuguese lyrics. I've found only a few here and there so far :(

I said I listened to GoRABpeed.

It's not the lack of hooks, it's really the lack of emotion or album presence. I've listened to a few Mogwai albums all the way through, and they really don't do anything. It's the same reason I don't like Kid A. It doesn't really do anything, just pretty much meanders around for forty minutes.

I must preface this by saying I love Tom Jones, I say that without any hint of irony. I think he really is one of the finest singers I've ever heard.

Praise and Blame simply confirms that opinion. A gospel touched album that takes full advantage of his power and his range. The first track is written by Bob Dylan and is called What Good Am I, and since I first heard the song I have been unable to get it out of my heaRAB. Not traditionally catchy, but compellingly written and the rasp Tom Jones brings to the song, corabined with his natural power, the highs and the lows, and the regrets implicit in his phrasing make it a must listen. There is seven or eight stand out tracks and a few which I like but don't love, overall one of my favorite albums of the year.

John Lydon - Psycho's Path

John+Lydon+-+Psycho%27s+Path+-+front.jpg

Good little album this. Some of it, particularly the latter half, drags a little, but a few of the songs are as good as anything the guy did with PIL. He recorded pretty much every instrumental part as well, which is alright I guess. If it had Leftfield's original Open Up mix as a bonus track instead of the so-so Chemical Brothers one, I'd listen to this much more.

I think the easiest way to describe them is that they're very much in the vein of Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, and truly worthy successors to that style of music. They're an amazing band and absolutely fantastic live.
