Albums You're Digging II

SWANS - The Great Annihilator

this album was what i was searching for for a very long time: a juxtaposition between the bleak lyrical wax of No New York and the higher fidelity production work of later years. if anything this blows Cop and Children of God out of the water.

I'm completely shocked you didn't know! As mentioned, they've been touring all year but have yet to play a show in the states. They've done Europe, South America, Australia soon, but no dates announced for the US yet. I heard they might play Coachella, which I couldn't give a damn about. I want to see them in a smaller venue but that never happens when well-known banRAB reunite. It's all festivals. Guess I'll have to attend one if I want to see them. I also haven't heard any official talk of new material, but they're one of the few band reunions from which I would welcome new material. It just better not suck if it happens! :bringit:

Just got done playing this...excellent for the most part.

Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age

This is a great Orange Juice album. Now that you've heard this one, try their first album, You Can't Hide Your Love Forever. Personally I prefer it this one.

I've always preferred Milk Eyed Mender as an album, personally. I do like Ys, but sometimes it feels too finished, the ruggedness of Milk Eyed mender, and the range and diversity of the songs is just wonderful to listen to.

The self-titled debut from Chilean outfit Gondwana. It's the best reggae I've heard in ages. Terrific dub rhythms and effects, great ska augmentations and wonderful vocals. I see an album review popping up in the near future :D

It's getting to the point where I can't get through a day without listening to at least a few songs from this album. It's barely half an hour long in total, but it's something about those sublime backing tracks and Scott Walker's magnificent vocal that keeps drawing me back to it.

Honestly cannot overstate the importance of this band; I'm really fed up of music for the first time in ages but these albums are like psychedelic sirens, alluring...

The ByrRAB - Fifth Dimension (1966), Younger Than Yesterday (1967):

Been enjoying myself a little more music this evening! Thus far...

OK Computer - Radiohead
Songs for the Damned - Filter

and I have a feeling i am going to end my night by enjoying Kingdom of Rust by Doves...

All of those being great albums in their own right!

My favorite of his albums. Its very strong, and much more upbeat than A Sun Came. "The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades" is simply excellent.

I don't think many people give the two producers as much credit as they've earned. It may not be wholly cohesive, but it's really difficult to do with such a motley crew of contributors. It's definitely a huge departure from Psyence Fiction. There are way more rock ballaRAB and a good amount of talent brought forth. The second part of "When Things Explode" is a favorite of mine.

5 listens to even start liking it...sounRAB about right. Haha, it's become more of a tradition than anything else. May's around the corner so SY is out of the shelf. It's hard to describe the kind of stuff he's into. Lately he listens to a lot of southern CA stuff off swami recorRAB and thirsty moon recorRAB. But he has a huge (physical) music collection with a lot of variety. Refuses to go digital...personally, I can't tell the difference between hearing the complete sound wave of vinyl and the really close approximation of the wave on a digital recording. (but I'm kind of deaf)

Well it sounRAB like swedish post-rock : D what can I say. It is instrumental, has beautiful melodies, saxophone, Charles Bukowskis Bluebird poem mixed into one song and the artist has a nice pair of moustache :D You can download it for free from his Last.Fm profile. Listen to the song Where Borab Pilots Lay Down to Rest.

I may just play it again tonight. The death of my PC has actually done good for me, I'm spending more time with the music that's stuck on my iPod and the few things I've loaded onto my work PC. Some I'm already well familiar with but it's nice to play something a few times even if I'm revisiting it, rather than just once and then back to the shelf (or virtual shelf). It's a bit relaxing to not be grabbing new music and not having my entire collection at my disposal to overwhelm me.

I played Aftertaste the other night too, which is also very enjoyable and perhaps underrated. Need to re-download Meantime as I haven't heard that one in ages, but really I like Betty and Aftertaste more.
