Albums You're Digging II

Frail - Brilliant Darkness

I am in love this album atm. It's 4 tracks in length but my God I can't get enough of it. It's RABBM, but it's not heavy or anything like that... it's just beautiful.

Bark Psychosis-Hex and Codename: Dustsucker. Beautiful, amazing dark, arabient, post-rock type stuff. Both albums are stellar even though they were released nearly a decade apart.

^^Haha, I said maybe more exciting. I absolutely love no wave New York, but recently I'm into exploring San Francisco scene and it surprises me with high quality with every band I hear for the first time. I basically listened to The Residents and Tuxedomoon the most and then Chrome and MX-80 Sound. Oh, and there was Monte Cazazza too. Two 'banRAB' I heard recently, that I never knew existed before, are Factrix and now Minimal Man. Both are fantastic. And there's more I haven't checked yet. So it's a pretty strong competition to no wave New York. It just neeRAB some official compilation to save those banRAB from oblivion, like a certain other compilation did for those New York banRAB.

Between the Buried and Me - Colors
probably a masterpiece hasn't left rotation since it came out.

Licorice Roots - Shades of Streamers
Psychedelic fun.

Leftover Crack - **** World Trade
Loved it when it came out, kind of a "re-discovery" for me.

Theres a Buckley cover that isnt a part of a medley with Hallelujah but yes, the way he tied it into Hallelujah at times was really good. Noel Gallaghers cover of There Is A Light...was alright too. However if you are lucky enough to have never heard Chris Martin sing Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before then I'd suggest keeping it that way.

Oh and the version of Please Please Please on This Is England was by Clayhill.

Probably because Mr. Bungle was the shit. Ever notice that Patton is wearing a Bungle shirt in the "Epic" video? Shameless self-promotion at it's best.

I agree with George Carlin when he said that the wrong two Beatles died first.

I ****in' hated that guy. Angel Dust is my favorite as well.

After 3 listens, I still don't really have a handle on any specific terms I can use to describe this album or really good comparisons. It's got the arabiance and the darkness of Mezzanine, but that doesn't really do this album justice. It's almost tribal at points, with the pulsating drums, sharp electronics, and the ominous choir. It reminRAB me of the "How would you kill other rab Merabers" thread in the lounge, in the sense that if I ever ritually sacrificed any of you, this would be the album I'd put on in the background.

Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea (2003)

Just dug out this CD, haven't heard it in years but it is more familiar to me than most Smashing Pumpkins. The weather is starting to look up and it's a good, loud summer album so far. I think there are about 50 guitars layered onto each track. Good vibes, and Corgan is not annoying me in the slightest. The production is deliberately analogue I think, it sounRAB like the loudest 70's guitar album ever, it crackles under the strain sometimes, and I know that's not my speakers.
Also it looks increasingly like this was a one-off affair, apparently the band did not split amicably.
edit: for those who don't know Zwan was a 'supergroup' led by Corgan and had the Pumpkins drummer, some girl from A Perfect Circle (meh) and David Pajo from Slint. And another guy.

Dog Faced Hermans - Hum of Life (1993)

My new favourite band possibly. They're a Scottish anarcho-punk band with folk influences who were based in Amsterdam, this is their penultimate album and amazingly the follow up 'These Deep BuRAB' is meant to be even better. I say anarcho-punk but by this point their sound had evolved, the songs had gotten weirder and there is plenty of experimental noise; the singer Marion Coutts is brilliant, at times sounding like an exuberant female Mark E. Smith.
I got this one from the blog that PMO shared. The guitarist has expressed interest in producing my friend's band after a chance meeting in Amsterdam, which is nice!

Jetscreamer - Starhead

I like this album . It's like the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with avant garde leanings.
This came out in 2003, as far as I can see it's the only thing they released sadly.

At The Drive-In are immense but I still haven't checked out The Orb yet. They've been on my radar for ages now.
Also sorry, I just saw Dayvan Cowboy and assumed you were a boy haha.

Cool 13 Songs is another really good one to get. I'd usually say get that album next but seeing as how you like experimental music Red Medicine would probably be a better fit.

I absolutely love Fugazi though. In fact I did a presentation on Ian Mackaye back in the day for an English project.

That's a pretty cool album, and I find it even more impressive since I'm not too experienced with electro.

New Trolls - Concerto Grosso I

Classic Italian prog album, and quite epic. There's even a tribute to Hendrix.

Suede - Dog Man Star

There's something about this album I really like... I can't quite pin it down though.
