Albums You're Digging II

church_starfish_315.jpg

Anyone who has read my Church posts knows that I love the early 90's stuff, and wasn't really a huge fan of their 80s stuff, but this album has really grabbed me recently. Destination, Lost, Blood Money, North, South, East and West, Reptile and A New Season especially.

When I want some chill out music this is the kinda thing I turn to:

The Immortal - Mississippi John Hurt

Got this one from James, will definitely be getting some more. This is great stuff!

It's funny - I haven't really given that album the time of day. I feel like I should love it because I love everything JAMC did and I like the idea - but I still never listen to that one. I default to Automatic and Honey's Dead when I want to lay back.

On topic: I'm still digging this..

My Dad Is Dead - Peace , Love And Murder

Don't know an awful lot about this band but their lead singer sounRAB EXACTLY like Ian Curtis and the music sounRAB a lot like Flip Your Wig era Husker Du. So naturally I like it a lot.

The Models - AlphaBravoCharlieDeltaEchoFoxtrotGolf

Australian post punk ... noisy , abrasive , energetic and lots of synths. Not really that original but I could listen to this stuff all day. A bit like The Fall , but more accessible.

Frank Zappa - The Grand Wazoo

Had this for ages but never got around to listening to it. It makes interesting background chill out music anyway. Not his best album but an average Zappa album is better than a lot of banRAB good albums.

Adorable - Against Perfection

Adorable bridged the gap between early 90s shoegaze & britpop.
A bit poppier than your average shoegaze band and a lead singer with a big mouth & bundles of attitude.
Should have been much bigger than what they were.

million dead and hundred reasons were all out of that kind of poppy hardcore (?) boom that happened like early noughties. I've got a Million Dead CD sitting around without a box for some reason...
the Smiths shouldn't be covered ever unless you have a working knowledge of the twelve-string.
they used 'how soon is now' for Charmed, that show was terrible. Like buffy the vampire slayer but worse.
it's all enough to make the bile rise in your throat really

Stereolab & Nurse With Wound - Simple Headphone Mind

Crurab Duck was pretty meh, but this actually has something going for it other than a collaboration between two great artists. It mitigates a ground that neither band really explored before, somewhat between post-rock and noise rock. For once, it sounRAB like the arabient and corrosive elements aren't fighting each other, and the barely intelligible lyrics compliment the overall sound. A definite must for anyone interested in either band.

It wasn't compression. They pushed the volume of the mix to maximum levels before they mastered it. The lead engineer said when he got the tracks they were already fucked over and he couldn't do anything to clean them up.
