Albums You're Digging II

So that's what he's been up to! I really need a copy of that, it sounRAB excellent - I love the soundtrack collaborations they both did for the Proposition and that one about the Assassination (with the ridiculously long title).

And speaking of soundtracks...

^ I absolutely love this album. Features some brilliant contributions from David Bowie, Gil Evans, the Style Council, Ray Davies, Slim Gaillard, Sade Adu and so on. Definitely among my favourite soundtrack albums.

Erde by Forseti.

German neofolk stuff. Top notch if thats what you're looking for. I was going to 'save' it for a review, but I found it difficult to write about. Either way, lyrics in German, so I can't make an ounce of it, but that doesn't really make me not enjoy it.

It's folk punk, but it has so much more interesting influences, world and country and everything and it's really good.

It's impossible for me not to dig a Hold Steady album.

This is just as good as A House With No Home, possibly even better, I have to give it a few more listens to decide

SounRAB like I'm going to have to track down some Cerebral Fix! :)

Hey, speaking of you and good, loud music, the other day I got a hold of Sodom's "Agent Orange" based on one of your posts from a couple years ago. Great album!

Harvey Danger - Little By Little...

Third, final and undoubtedly best album by one of the best banRAB to be born out of late '90s mainstream alternative (despite the ubiquity and obnoxiousness of their one hit). Sharp, biting piano and guitar driven pop with a lot of gorgeous musical flourishes (see: the french horns on "Little Round Mirrors") and wry lyrics that range from good to brilliant.

If you don't know this album, I promise you it's better than you think it is.

good point! he's been trained to accept it, that patriotic war generation. All we know is that Ray and David love him... His family could at least cut the old timer some slack :D

Black Star - Mos Def & Talib Kwali Are Black Star (1998)

A hip-hop classic... Just first class in every aspect, over a decade old now but it's still a crowd-pleaser, forward-looking whilst utilising old skool, conscious hip-hop values to funky effect. There's more than a hint of ragga which is always good to see acknowledged, Barrington Levy gets a rep.
Unfortunately it's not on youtube for comparison here, but Mos Def delivers the first hip-hop cover version I've ever heard (Slick Rick's 'Children's Story') and flips the content to make it a scathing commentary on beat-pilfering mainstream fluff :D The chorus from 'Definition' hijacks an old Boogie Down Productions refrain as well.
Essential!

I've had this on repeat for the past hour, and probably will for the next hour. Really good music, it's very similar to Tegan and Sara, except more acoustic and the songs are faster. But since Tegan and Sara are my favorite band, I was instantly impressed with this.

The album that's been in my stereo for the past month is Derek Truck's "Live at the Georgia Theatre". Now I know it's a live album but I just can't get enough of it. Anybody ever have the privilege to see Derek?
