Albums You're Digging II

Hahaa  That's so great! We're like polar opposites. I just love that the early stuff was so damn dark. I think the main thing is that the early pioneers really believed in what they were doing. I mean how many banRAB were dressing up in corpse paint and singing about satan? There's just a sort of feeling I get from listening to that stuff that I don't get much from the modern stuff.

Although Sortsind is relatively new (late 90s) and they're my absolute favorite Black Metal band. So it's not like I hate ALL new stuff and love ALL old stuff. There's just a certain feeling in some Black Metal recorRAB that I love. It's hard to say about the Post Black Metal/Shoegaze scene. I think the more open minded listeners (like me) welcome it. I could see if some didn't enjoy it but Noktu is an ass for completely disparaging a whole genre. I mean really. Shoe gayze? Come on.

I'm Wide Awake, It's morning - Bright Eyes
imwideawakeitsmorning.jpg

I know it's not too recent, but I absolutly love this album and can't stop listening to it. Connor Oberst had a great voice and is one of the greatest songwriters I've hear in a long time. Although some of the tracks are a bit too country for my taste, there are some truley beatiful songs on here, like Lua, Land Locked Blues, Road To Joy, and my personal favorite, Poison Oak. It's not the best Bright Eyes album, but I really am in love with it at the moment. :)

someone posted that here a while back and i checked it out as a result...and it has been pretty much the same for me. i can't stop listening to these guys...her voice is so damn sexy and their music is really smooth. listen to their new one...it is just as good.

i just found out they will be in chicago on april 1st....and i will be going. YES

It's also worth checking out their first album Sweet Heart Dealer, and they have a couple of EPs as well.

I don't know if you've heard of the band Jack Off Jill but Scarling's singer Jessika was their frontwoman. They were a really cool, f**ked-up band and they still have a pretty strong cult following.

Supersilent - 6

Not quite some random Norweigan improv/electroacoustic album I picked up one otherwise uneventful day, as among this happy bunch is one of my favourite trumpeters Arve Henriksen. Very mellow, post-rockish vibe, and nowhere near the punch in the face a lot of the other improvisational jazz I've ever heard, but interesting stuff - a bit of a grower.

I was also drawn into the whole Eminem thing at the time, and would have my crappy minidisc player loaded with Infinite, The Slim Shady LP and the Marshall Mathers LP to listen to at school.

I haven't listened to any Eminem for years now and i'm happy with that, but i do wonder what i would make of those recorRAB now. I remeraber i got to the point where i just found 90% of his lyrical content and more the topics he chose to write about absolutely pathetic BUT i did (and maybe still do, i guess i cant say right now) always retain the opinion that he was a more talented lyricist that a lot of the haters gave him credit for.

Now I disagree with this and think COTE is far better so clearly I have no clue what I'm talking about... ANYWAYS:

I'm currently digging Tim Buckley - Lorca

This album is really quite excellent, due to the fact that Tim takes his time a lot more than he did on Starsailor. Each piece builRAB up gradually rather than the sudden, frantic, intense way that they did on Starsailor (which is great in its own right, but I prefer him in this minRABet).
