Stolen Babies - There Be Squabbles Ahead (2006)

Amazing avant-garde metal album with cabaret influences. Dominique Lenore Persi does a great job alternating between clean and harsher vocals and she plays a god damn accordion. They really need to come out with a new album...
 
I generally don't bother with compilations but I actually listen to this regulaly 'cause it's got some of my favourite B&S songs

I'm digging Toxocara's The Great Rebellious, it's solid AS. Brutal and raw in a way that touches you almost to the point of ecstasy, it's also got a very "vintage" feel to it. Very straightforward, but in a good way.

O.C. - Word...Life

Seminal album from the Brooklyn rapper circa early nineties. If you want to talk about hip-hop renaissance, forget The Chronic and Illmatic, the dense collection of rhymes and jazzy beats flow impeccably on this album.

Time and time again I come back to this album expecting my opinion to change. Nope, still fucking brilliant.
 
Future of the Left's latest live album is pretty good for band-crowd banter.

"Get on with it!"
"You're wearing a Tool T-Shirt so your opinion is meaningless."
 
Lately I've been referring to IDM as Introverted Dance Music. I think it fits really well...still implies a bit of intelligence without sounding ****y...and I think introverted is what it's been all along, really. It's not for the dancefloor, it's for your brain. For personal enjoyment.

The Damned- "Machine Gun Etiquette"

My friend had this album playing constantly 3 years ago, and though I liked it at the time I've put off purchasing it until now. The album is honestly one of the top 5 best punk albums ever made. Every song is excellent, there's little to no monotony and filler like most punk albums, the melodies are extremely strong and have a classic, memorable feel to all of them. This is an overlooked gem that every punk/post-punk fan should own.

I have to agree with that. I've always liked Candy Apple Grey - there's not a song on there that I don't like.

Monster - R.E.M.

I like this album for it's raw rock sound. "Strange Currencies", "Crush With Eyeliner", and of course "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" are my personal favourites from this album at the moment :)
 
I've read a lot about that album. That's the album where they broke their straight-edge, smoked some grass and went for a more spaced-out sound. I might download it next time.
