Minimal Man - The Shroud Of (1981)

The more I hear from this late 70s San Francisco post-punk/avant-garde/electronic scene, the more I'm convinced it was the most exciting time and place, maybe even more than no wave New York of the same time.

This is the first proper album of Patrick Miller aka Minimal Man, visual and performance artist turned musician. After only two listens I absolutely love it. It's brilliant, haunting, hypnotic, unsettling and...well, minimal :) as can be perfectly heard in closing track 'She Was a Visitor'.

Another Posies fan here - first encountered them in the Hype! documentary doing "Throwaway" live and really loved that song. I agree with you about Failure and enjoy its brighter, cleaner sound and non-stop hooks. Dear 23 is a great record as well.

I agree...I've found a ton of new music through this thread. This gets my vote for most valuable thread on the site.

I'm sure I don't need to say much about this one...but it's been getting some decent rotation from me recently. I love it.
 
I really love Sunset Everett, #2. Something about screwed up pop is just awesome. Really fun album overall, still hearing new things with each spin.


Glad you like it! Their last two albums are definitely more mellow than the others but they are still great.

while it's less "GEMINIIIII BECOMMMINGGG THE TRIIIIIPOOOOOOD!!!!" than Anemone and Choirs, it's still a good album. Oh, and I think Toby Driver's been a bit sad recently. He's not screaming as much.
 
I would have started with The BenRAB but if you've skipped that stage I'll just agree with sidewinder and say Kid A. After that The BenRAB, and then all I own is Hail To The Thief, which is probably not the next step. Maybe Amnesiac followed In Rainbows, then HTTT. Then Pablo Honey last
 
Probably my favorite SY album...it's one of those things I can't put my finger on, too. The guitar tones are just great, but as far as the actual music goes....there is just something addictive about it that I can't figure out.

I love Iron & Wine and I love this album! 'Naked as We Came' is another favourite song of mine off that album. The Shepherd's Dog is another great release from him, as is Around the Well - a B sides and rarities compilation. 'Such Great Heights' is one of my favourite covers.
