Albums You're Digging II

Carrying on with the theme of The Cave, I've been playing his new album with Warren Ellis, White Lunar.

Really great stuff, a lot of instrumental tracks which usually manage to paint vivid mental images despite the lack of vocals, much like the soundtracks he has done previously such as for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. There are some momentary vocals and raspy lyrics, but it's mainly a really chilled out album, great for the evenings and winding down.

Can't wait for the new film The Road. I enjoyed the book and it made me additionally excited when I found out Nick Cave was composing the soundtrack.

Also, after listening to White Lunar I realized Warren Ellis has released a string of albums as part of The Dirty Three. I hadn't previously heard of these, despite being a long time fan of Nick Cave & The Bad SeeRAB, so I've been listening to a few of their recommended albums recently too! A lot of violin based tracks, again, really relaxing and some amazing composition of music.

All in all, a lot of Bad SeeRAB related listening!

I haven't been able to post on here for awhile...looking to try and post a lot more. Anyways, I've been absolutely spellbound lately by Mew. I started with their latest, No More Stories/Are Told Today... and was absolutely blown away. It's like gorgeous indie pop mixed with prog elements. Suffice it to say I've been steamrolling their discography and I'm incredibly impressed. They seem to be able to mix up their sound with each album and yet still keep what makes them great, which not many banRAB are able to do well.

Arcade Fire - Funeral

I love it when you haven't listened to a band in like forever and then when you do finally listen to them again they just sound so good. Favorite Song: Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), and Crown of Love.

She and Him - Volume One

Definitely one of my favorites of 2008. Favorite Song: Sentimental Heart.

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - I See a Darkness

I've actually had this album for ages but have just never really listened to it till recently, and I'm not quite sure why seeing as its very very good.

There are two- one album and a rip from the superb DVD. Want me to sort it and up? It's a perverse happiness when a banRAB albums are hard to find!

XTC - Mummer

Just as gorgeous an album as I remeraber it being. I hadn't listened to it in a while before I reminded of it by Pete's album list a moment or two back. It's got this great, silky-smooth and mellow sound to it - very laid back vibe executed with typical panache.

Kiss The Anus Of The Black Cat - Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water

i finally picked up this amazing band's forth release and have not stopped listening to it....the songs are quite short compared to previous releases....and much more straight forward and to the point while keeping the layered complexity that made me fall in love with this band....a wonderful mixture of dark folk music, traditional instrumentation, post-rock, gothic americana, and just a small dose of psychedelic....

this is by far their most straight forward release...which is why i think many fans of their earlier albums dislike it....i have to admit my first listen last night left a sour taste in my mouth....but this has really grown on me....and i think this may offer more exposure to this band whom i really enjoy....this will easily be one of my favorite albums for the year 2010

top tracks: Veneration, Feathers of the Wings of the Angel Gabriel, Argonaut And Magneto

Oh, it isn't at all. I'm not condemning downloading just lowering my quantity for a while. I've probably spent over $100 on shows this month and that's just limiting it to shows that I feel I need to attend.

Just heard of this thanks to Music phantom.

Not as good as Dangermouse's White Album mash up but still good. In general not enough Pavement but there are incredibly good moments throughout.

Definitely a great album as far as content is concerned, but it has always lacked the "live" feel that trademarked their sound. There were also alot of studio overdubs added in post-production.

Definitely one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time.
