Albums You're Digging II

the Electric Soft Parade - No Need To Be Downhearted (2007): Actual indie/pop perfection, highly recommendo. Their first album was yummy too. Fave songs: Misunderstanding, Cold World.

Elliott Smith - Figure 8 (2000): The only Smith album I have for some reason, just returned to it. His autistic attention to songwriting detail and Beatles obsession reminRAB me very much of a friend. Fave tracks: Pretty Mary K, L.A, pretty much all of them.

They are post hardcore. What do you like about the album? The band split into 2 different groups after a couple albums (Sparta and the Mars Volta). Sparta is like the hardcore half and the Mars Volta are the progressive half. If you haven't listened to either check out Wiretap Scars (Sparta) and Deloused in the Comatorium (the Mars Volta)

^ Some marvelous charaber pop that makes for one of my favourite albums of the 60s. The guy's voice can probably put out fires too.

^ Peace and Love, the Pogues' fourth album. A bit more confused and messy than the ones that came before it, but a) that's a strength and b) it's home to the most played song on my LastFM profile.

^ Lifeforms by FSOL. I've bleated on about them enough for a week, so I'll just say that this album is deserving of all the positive adjectives that have been directed at it before.

Hmmm... I'm not sure what to think of that description haha. Anybody wanna post a video of their favorite song on there just because I'm curious now to hear what it sounRAB like?

It's an instrumental hip-hop day up in this piece, and among others, I've been enjoying these albums.

P-Love - ...All Up in Your Mind
Released in 2005 on Sixtoo's label Bully RecorRAB, and possibly recorded partly using equipment belonging to Amon Tobin. A very chill and organic album belonging as much to indie electronic as to hip-hop, partly due to the use of live instruments...it almost feels like post-rock at times. A little-known gem that I enjoy immensely every time I come back to it.

Dimlite - This is Erabracing
Swiss beat maker Dimitri Grimm's second album on the German Sonar Kollektiv label, from 2006. Pretty downtempo yet upbeat and fun. Some vocal samples here and there, a guest MC or two, a bit of jazz, some live instruments as well of course. Some ideas that run through much of today's instrumental hip-hop and "wonk" can be found here...in 2006 and his 2005 debut. Though he himself is obviously influenced by Prefuse 73.

Dimlite - Prismic Tops
His latest 8-track 45-minute EP from this year, this time on Stone's Throw sister label Now-Again RecorRAB. A bit different from his first two albums, a bit more wonky/twisted and he even sings on some tracks but it's well distorted and fun. A lady named Elan Tamara sings on the song 'On The Same Picture' and I quite like it.

Some Flying Lotus will be up next...

Revisiting Lateralus by Tool, and wondering why I took so long to come back to this... SO very much of this album reflects my current worldview, especially The Grudge, The Patient and Parabola / Parabol...

I forgot how absolutely amazing this album is...
