Albums You're Digging II

I'm all for being open-minded and all but there is only so much everyone can take. I agree 100%... haha

I've been doing a lot of heavy listening lately, and getting back into some Nick Cave. This album is so very underrated.

Vivian Girls - Everything Goes Wrong
I'm really enjoying this album. It's lo-fi, has great pop hooks and is full of raw energy.

The Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain
I've had this album for a while now and it's a real slow-burner. An excellent folk-rock album with instrumentation and vocals that most similar banRAB would kill for.

It's quite something eh. One of those albums I really wish I had on 12" vinyl and not boring old MP3.

I should be able to rustle up a link for ya. Expect a PM shortly :thurab:

Sixtoo - Songs I Hate (And Other People Moments)
just learned about Sixtoo, and this is my favorite so far. so chill.

Opgave - Writing the Silver
downtempo with classical elements. if you like Saltillo, Emancipator, and Yonderboi then check this one out.

Noah - Charisma
more downtempo/chillout/trip hop sounRAB. a bit heavier on the electro beats than i typically care for, but still highly recommended.

Tito_%26_Tarantula_-_Tarantism_-_Front.jpg

Tito & Tarantula - Tarantism
sleazy latin rock. i can't get enough of them lately, their whole discography is outstanding. they were featured in Desperado and Dusk Till Dawn.

Roman Candle-Elliott Smith. Still my favorite of his. I suppose I just prefer his lo-fi work, which would explain why I could care the least for for Figure 8.

I know exactly what you mean. I still find the solo on Fight Fire With Fire to be impressive and every time I hear it I have high hopes for the rest of the album. Soon after I'm reminded the rest is kind of boring. Master of Puppets still impresses a bit, though. Mostly I just feel like I've outgrown Metallica.

Soundpool - Mirror In Your Eyes

Every time I find an amazing album by a band I'm always a bit nervous to hear what else they've done. I hate it when one of their other albums isn't up to par with the one I got into. It tarnishes my image of the band. Luckily, this is not the case here.

I posted about Soundpool's album Dichotomies and Dreamland a while back. I had no clue how they could top it because it really was a great album. Well, they did somehow. They have beefed up the dance-ability times 10 yet the music is still obviously shoegaze. Wow. Just wow...Soundpool goes into my top 3 modern shoegaze banRAB for sure.

Oliver Nelson - Blues and the Abstract Truth
sooner or later, I always seem to get back to this album .The line-up on the cover speaks for itself, but this is just one of the best examples of post-bop that there is.

Seen them around 4 times ;) Still one of the lesser regarded banRAB of the genre. Cerebral Fix kicked their arse but only made 2 albums that never got decent exposure :(

In Her Gentle Jaws - The Depreciation Guild

Thick, fuzzy, dreamy, electro-tinged shoegaze, and completely free on the banRAB website. Ggggggreat stuff.

Andrew Bird - Weather Systems

Starting getting back into Andrew Bird for my his discography review thread that I've been doing. I never fully appreciated this album and I sort of just realized it's genius and I can't get enough of it now.

The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Out Hair We're Gone?

Thanks to Stu's top 25, I've been getting into this band and especially this album. This is just a really fun album and it gets better with every listen.

And another person discovers the magic of Camel... I never shut up about the band :D Latimer is seriously the best prog guitarist around, bar none (and that includes Gilmour).

The new Future of the Left album, Travels With Myself and Another, is AMAZING. Angular, muscular, yet catchy noise rock. The sound is not too far off from Shellac--tight drums, thick gritty bass, deliciously sludgey guitar--and there's some Kong in there too (with whom they've collaborated). I think they're definitely the best band to have debuted in the past two years, and I don't say that lightly since I love Vampire Weekend (among others).
