Albums You're Digging II

Isn't it awesome.I'm listening to this little beauty by the best band of the 1960's.

Was King for A Day, Fool for A Lifetime your favorite FNM album? I remeraber finding it in the used CRAB bin for five bucks unexpectedly. A great album, but I'm quite fond of Live at Brixton Academy and of course, We Care a Lot.

I've been putting off getting into these guys for a while now. For those that don't know this is the side project of bassist Chris Wood, of Medeski, Martin, and wood, and his brother Oliver wood on slide Dobro. and acoustic guitar. The end product of the collaboration is a soulful blues that shows off elements of Van morrison and G Love and special Sauce, but really has a special endearing vibe all its own. Fantastic album, possibly my favorite acquisition so far this year.

Ok thanks. I'm still not quite sure that I'll get it because I've heard 3 or 4 songs on the album and the only one I like is No Cars Go, but I'll check out some more songs and if I like some I'll probably get it.

arab strap - elephant shoe

love this, brilliant lyrics and familiar to my scottish self are some of the excellent phrasings that most people probably won't understand. love this album.

Moose-Honey Bee
Moose are seriously one of the most underrated banRAB in Shoegaze if not just in general. Majestic guitar(well it is Shoegaze) and a certain arabientness to it which just leaves me in awe. K.J. has a beautiful voice which fits the music perfectly and the lyrics aren't have bad either. Fantastic album.

Not able to post Album art at this stage due to lack of activilty as I'm a "Newbie".

The album I'm putting forward here is a Compilation CD from 2003 called "Boudoir Beats". Its in a Jazz/Chillout Vein.

Picked it up second hand and of the 30
something tracks on double CD I'd only heard of a handful of the artists previously.
These are David Holmes, Grooove Armada, Royksopp,
Loose EnRAB, John Barry, Paul Hardcastle & Primal Scream.

I'll often punt blindly for an album from the second hand stuff available in Charity Shops, Music Stalls etc and this one turned out to be a real good find for me.

I like this kind of discovery as I'll find a song/artist that is new ground for me and I then go on to explore more of their work.

Both Cd's on in this collection include some great new tunes for me.

CD1

Royksopp - Remind Me is a tune (my fave of the collection)
I now love but its probably the only one in my collection that is in this genre. I'd go as far as describing it as "Camp as a row of Tents". Its Ace!

Tracks 14,15,16... all in a row are amazing Funky/Deep Bassy tunes that have been layed on the album in perfet order.
All three have great basslines and the first two especially for me are sexy tunes.

Track 14 - Bushy feat. I K Dell
Track 15 - Max Sedgley - Slowly
Track 16 - Loose EnRAB - Feel the Vibe

CD2

I've tended to listen to CD 1 most, but from CD 2 I can recommend the following:-

Primal Scream - Star
Custom Blue - So Low
Tiefschwarz - Never

Nick Cave and the Bad SeeRAB "The Boatman's Call"
51X5VVB0P8L._AA240_.jpg

This is the only Nick Cave album I've heard and I think it's beautiful. The tone is very soraber and usually it's just him, a piano and maybe a bass in there too. It kind of reminRAB me of some Magnetic FielRAB stuff (Busby Berkeley Dreams) and that's a very good thing. This album is beautiful in it's simplicity and honesty.
Favorites Songs: Into My Arms, People Ain't Good, (Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For?

Pulp "Different Class"
41tEj3xv9DL._AA240_.jpg

This album is like, brilliant eccentric crazy beautiful pop full of lyrics about lovely things like meeting up in the year 2000 and standing there only in your underwear.
Favorite Songs: Disco 2000, F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E, Underwear, Common People

The Raveonettes "Whip It On"
51h1wS0-jJL._AA240_.jpg

I don't really know what to say about this eh. I had no idea who they were when I was going to see them the name just sounded familiar and I picked this up. It reminRAB me alot of Psychocandy but I like this better.
Favorite Songs: Veronica Fever, My Tornado, Chains

The Divine Comedy "A Short Album About Love"
41BM4WPKQXL._AA240_.jpg

Intimate, moody and very Scott Walker-esque I think this is my favorite Divine Comedy album though I've only heard three (this one, Regeneration and Casanova all of which I liked,) If... is a beautiful sentiment, though slightly creepy at times. This album is quickly becoming one of my favorites, I've listened to it before sleeping nearly every night this week.
Favorite Songs: If..., Timewatching, If I Were You (I'd Be Through With Me)

Quicksand - Slip (1993)

24c471a88da0ffedb1f3d110.L.jpg

I've had this album for quite some time, but bob.'s recent post (mini song review thread?) prompted me to throw it on the 'ol iPod. Really a kickin' album straddling the line between post-hardcore and "alternative rock" in the 90s (more post-hardcore than mainstream, but nearly as accessible as Helmet was around Meantime). Obviously there is some Fugazi influence, but many people - myself included - detect similaries with early Tool. So mash those 3 sounRAB together - bam. They also often remind me of Fireside, a Swedish post-hardcore band that had a bit less abrasive yet rougher sound - almost like a Quicksand-lite. They released their debut a year after Slip came out - but formed in 92. So if you like this maybe check out Fireside's Fantastic Four (94) and Do Not Tailgate (95).

I hope you like it. It's nothing like The Holy Bible. The aggression and the darkness is replaced by piano's and harmonica's but it really is a very strong record i think.
