Albums You're Digging II

yage??? seriously? awesome. is that the band name (the german screamo band?) or the naem of the album? Im gonna have to check that out and the peppermint tree album sounRAB awesome as well.

I'm not super amped about it or anything, I just find it a refreshing take on contemporary prog. compared to the dozens of Pendragon and Flower Kings clones that have been popping up in the last decade. Carrying on a symphonic tradition is one thing, but when you start hearing two completely different banRAB sounding exactly the same....you know there's an issue.

As for my comment on the coldness; I was referring to the stark production contrasted against the music (which is rather warm/melodic as you said). :)

I know that vaginas don't play kazoos, but I bet if they did it would sound like this:

Mew - No More Stories Are Told Today, I'm Sorry They Washed Away / No More Stories, The World Is Grey, I'm Tired, Let's Wash Away

When this first came out a little while back, I wasn't that impressed honestly. I also went into it a bit skeptical since their bassist checked out and he added a LOT to their sound. One of the main reasons I fell in love with Mew is because the guitars sounded huge (like in the song Snow Brigade), but if you listened to it closely the guitars are actually thin and jangly. It is that distorted bass thrown in that makes everything sound massive. On first listen, the album sounded to me as if they had no clue what to do next so they just winged it by starting with a melody/beat here and there and then developed something off that.

I was wrong...this one was a major grower. The urge just hit me today and I had to listen to this album again. I had a feeling for some reason today was the day this album would pay off...and man, it did. It's hard to rank Mew albums for me, but this one can hold its own with ...And the Glass Handed Kites and Frengers.

Only you could have a claim like that

It's actually funny how I found this band. It was from a Norwegian 12-String Acoustic blues signer named Bjorn Berge. He did a cover of it which kicked ass, and when I learned it was a cover I immediately checked out the band. I still think I prefer Berge's cover, but damn it is such a great song. At the end of the day I think either "Thursday" or "Candy" is my favourite song on the album.

Rodan - Rusty (1994)

I've heard this referred to as Slint's third album (in jest of course) and while I'll agree, it does share some similarities with Tweez and Spiderland, it really is an entity in and of itself.

I can see making the shoegaze connection though. the guitar work is damn fantastic and textural as all-get-out. It definitely makes you forget that it's only drums and guitar.

N*E*R*D- Seeing SounRAB
Great album, songs are catchy. Spazz is my favorite song on the album. Upbeat, spazztic, crazy, and just great. Sticks to original hip-hop methoRAB, and incorporates rock, techno, among other genres. Great stuff.

Had Jarvis Coc ker's most recent album on in the car all day today as I did my erranRAB today... very very cool album... it's got some very Pulp - ish overtones to it, of course, that's probably to be expected, really, but it's also got a nice harder edged sound to it, as well as Jarvis's usual penchant for a witty sexual lyric or a bit of overt innuendo... this of course one of the things that always attracted me to his songwriting...

Snuff - Tweet Tweet My Lovely

A yes, a wonderful, even if poorly-produced, late 90s British pop/hardcore punk album, with a few horns here and there. One of my favorite banRAB from the genre, though their material is a bit inconsistent and I only really like 2 of their albums, including this one. Great melodies though. There's a side project EP called Guns N' Wankers that is also great.

I don't have any music with me and I can't play it on my computer here. :( But, I've been listening to:

7 SeconRAB: Walk Together Rock Together

A great hardcore album, a little more melodic than some of their stuff. It has a great cover of 99 Red Baloons too, a song that I really love.
