Albums You're Digging II

Powerman 5000 is pretty gross. Rob Zorabie's brother pales in comparison...and I don't really even like Rob Zorabie. I didn't even realize they still made music...

I Would Set Myself On Fire For You- Believes In Patterns

A fascinating listen, a different style of screamo that keeps me entertained with all it's different instruments and structures. Plus I love the male/female vocals.

oops, forgot to add, tonight I am recovering some favorite old ground listening to Genesis "The Way We Walk" live albums... I am just a sucker for these songs and these performances of them. So bummed I missed the band on their more recent "turn it on again tour"...

And now for a good ol' classic of my collection...

Out of Time REM

I still love this as much as the day I bought it. It's an album I am constantly rediscovering my love for...

At The Drive In - Relationship of Command

I don't really know what genre this band is classed as, but I had seen them mentioned a few times around here and took a punt on this album. Absolutely brilliant stuff. If anyone knows of similar albums do tell me.

Slipknot - Iowa
I've been listening to Slipknot's sophmore album "Iowa" lately. This is in my opinion the heaviest Slipknot album :hphones:. Although the lyrics aren't necessarily brilliant the heavy riff's make up for it.
Favorite Songs: People = S**t, Disasterpiece, My Plague, Everything EnRAB, The Heretic Anthem, Left Behind and Iowa.

My favourites recently:

Elvis Costello-This Years Model
Picked this up last week and im really getting into it theres not a song I dont like. The tunes really stick in your head.
Fav Songs-Radio Radio,Lipstick Vogue

Sonic Youth-Daydream Nation
After hearing about this a lot i eventually bought it. I just clicked with it and have listened to it every day since i bought it.
Fav Songs-Teen Age Riot,The Sprawl

Pulp-Different Class
After loving Blur and Oasis for a long time I checked out Pulp and loved them. They are much better than Oasis[not Blur though].
Fav Songs-Mis-shapes,Disco 2000

Gastr Del Sol - Upgrade & Afterlife

I've only digested about half of this - but that one half is quite something. The American Primitivism noRAB on a few tracks really speak to me (considering I'm quite the Fahey fan these days), and the segues that can take up to half of a track are seriously drawing me in. It feels like a world of its own.

iggy+pop+soldier.jpg

(1980)
Just above average, intriguing post-punk album by a very well-read and sometimes misunderstood iconic personality, if you enjoy the acclaimed run of albums preceding this (the Idiot, Lust For Life, New Values) you could do alot worse. I really like Iggy Pop, shame his output hasn't been too consistent (to put it nicely) since this album
Bowie puts in an appearance, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols is on bass. Sometimes the band is on fire, but it falls off in th second half somewhat. Fans only I'd say.
7/10

Iggy_Pop-Brick_By_Brick.jpg

(1990)
Iggy's best selling album apparently, and it's easy to hear why. Solid songwriting, undoubtedly billed as another 'return to his roots' at the time of release... I wouldn't call it that exactly (see: duet ballad with Kate Pierson of the B-52's), but many of the tracks are instantly memorable and a return to form; and you get some classic mid-tempo Iggy riffage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlzA0bB06q8&feature=related
The artwork is so good that even were it a terrible album you'd feel obliged to force yourself to like it. Lyrically there is a loose concept to the album as well methinks
8.5/10

edit: a biopic entitled 'the Passenger', with Elijah Wood playing Iggy, is slated for 2010...
