Albums You're Digging II

I'm such a fan of this German band put have precious little by them. I guess you could call them modern Krautrock and this album doesn't disappoint. The electronic influence is a little more heightened on this album compared some of the other stuff I have which is a little more Hawkwind-esque but it's still damn good.

^ I love this album. Such great, reasonably laid-back night-time listening. The lyrics are out of the top-drawer, as per norm. Shame it's probably gonna be his last album though.

^ Possibly my best find of the week. Absolutely superb stuff from the Aussie singer-songwriter - sounRAB just as intense and well-honed as the best of a certain Nick Cave's stuff, with the added twist of the guy's distinctive, baritone voice.

^ Still every bit as awesome as I remeraber it being. Can't remeraber when I last gave it a proper end-to-end listen like I did this morning though.

^ And I think I'll be digging this out shortly too.

Listening to Wait for Me (Arabient) by Moby... something about his music lenRAB itself well to laid back arabient listening, and it's doing a good job of getting me into a nice relaxed mood presently...

I'll probably try to pick it up cheap at some point but cheers for the offer.

Re: 'Hospice', yeah one of my faves of last year too. I think 'Two' and 'Kettering' tower over the other tracks a bit but it still works well listened to as a whole. Does seem to have a "bookish" feel of unraveling like a story, which is obviously what they were after. Initially I was a bit wary of a band gauche enough to call the opening and closing tracks 'Prologue' and 'Epilogue' but they get away with it. Pretty dark subject matter, hope for his/their sakes it isn't autobiographical.

Boredoms - Pop Tatari (1992)

Brilliant Japanese noise rock. Not as accessible as their later works but still just as interesting. It's awesome to see how they morphed over the last decade.

Terry Riley - In C (1964)
incbangonacan.jpg

Forty-five minutes of brilliant musical phrases, all in the key of C. It's impressive to note the beautiful compositions there are in minimalist music. This is the Bang on a Can version, but there are others recorded including one by Acid Mothers Temple.

Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye (2002)
32593.jpg

In my opinion the best KD record out there. A great merger of avant-garde metal with a distinct progressive mentality. Lots of space in this album but it's jam-packed with distinct songs as well.

Return to Forever - Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy (1973)

Jazz fusion has the capacity to be fantastic or horribly outdated, and thankfully, this is the former. This album doesn't feature Al di Meola on guitar but is nonetheless provocative in its complexity. For fans of early Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Exactly. Then you hear it and it blows your ****ing mind.

Decibel called it a "Razor Sharp Sci-Fi Thrash Attack"

It's a concept album, by the way. and the concept kicks ass.

Little Dragon - Machine Dreams

I spent a LOT of time on their debut...it was incredibly addicting. I knew they had this one out for a while, but never wanted to stop listening to their s/t. Finally, I gave this a spin and thought it started out kind of weak. Then they kicked in with My Step...wow that track is killer. Little Dragon are the ****. This album goes deeper into their electronic side...the loungey/jazzish vibe of the first album isn't present. At first, that is what bothered me...but now I love it.

o f i like Aftertaste a lot also....i just feel it was kind of a change of direction for the band...and i enjoy the raw noise of Strap It On and Betty a bit more....actually i think i'll put on Aftertaste....its been years

blackheartprocession-Blood-Bunny-Black-Rabbit-300x300.jpg

The Black Heart Procession - Blood Bunny/Black Rabbit

three new songs in very BHP style....heavy piano, moog, saw, rhythmic, and bleak dark lyrics....good stuff

but the remixes are insane....and polar opposite of what i was expecting....the song more like early Nine Inch Nails and early Foetus (like the soundtracks he did for Richard Kern and Nick Zedd)...very interesting

Other Men - Wake Up Swimming

Dammit I love this album. It's like Pinback on math. Similar melodies, and the vocals (and bass) of Rob Crow, but mostly faster and more playful. Very skillfully played, with a fair dose of slower parts that are more reminiscent of Pinback, but then they escalate back into mathy fun. I just posted this vid on YT, one of my favs:

Here's another that was already there, unfortunately it's quiet and a bit low quality. So turn it up! A good one but not my favorite. Pretty well representative though.
