Didn't even discover these guys until recently, and my mind was blown.

^ Very good little folk rock album this. Title track aside, there are some great originals and covers to be found here, including a lovely version of good old We'll Meet Again.

Good stuff, as I say. Doesn't get anywhere near as much airplay with me as the old favourite...

^ ...which as if by sheer coincidence I got through for the gazillionth time just now. An album that just never gets old.

This weekend, and tonight in particular, I'm feeling a Radiohead vibe... just listed to The BenRAB and I'm now enjoying OK Computer... what's next on my listener's list... you guessed it right! Kid A!

Great Album, Great Band. I love brody's vocals and lyrics and this is possibly my favourite by them im yet to get into Spinerette but listening to this has put me in the mood so I may pursue them tonight
Choice Tracks:City Of Angels, Seneca Falls, Lordy Lordy

Yeah, Guinness or any good beer for that matter can do amazing things for conversations. We used to be able to solve most awkward problems over a beer.

That sounRAB great. I only got me that album about a year ago and kind of got back into them. Been playing it a lot.

Totally agreed, it's a shame they get lumped in with all the new-rave/indie dance stuff though. To me they sound more like Battles and Meet Me in St. Louis than they do Late of the Pier and Bloc Party.

Also their b-sides are worth checking out, there's some really atmospheric and trippy stuff there.

I actually just listened to Times of Grace for the first time today as well, a couple hours before I listened to the two albums together. I liked it a lot but the two albums corabined is completely massive and amazing.

i think maybe i just have a particularly ****ty quality mp3 'copy' of the album, a bad vinyl rip or something, i always assumed they scraped it up from demo tapes as it was a posthumous release. should give it another session and report back. Mind you, it takes a long while listening to either of their recorRAB and cross-referencing some of the abstract lyrical turns on the net to fully appreciate how cool they were. It seems to me that the most Nation-orientated groups in this period were the most florid with their rhymes, some of the best outlandish slang that maybe only pops up once or twice, anywhere

this is 'the single' and all, but is what i like to call hardconscious

I honestly think that Reed never did anything after VU/Nico that's worth classic status. WL/WH has its moments, but the other VU albums are dreadful, and his solo stuff is amazingly lackluster (notable exception: The Day John Kennedy Died).

Oh man, you really need to hear the original Born In Time outtake. They completely raped and butchered that track for Tell Tale Signs. Not only did they bring the guitar up way too high, they edited the vocal from different takes and left out the best lines!

RapiRABhare: Easy Filehosting

(Plenty of other Oh Mercy goodies here, including the best version of Dignity and superior versions of Series Of Dreams)

...or Rhymes Of Goodbye, World's Strongest Man, the Old Man's Back Again etc.

Man, one of these days I might as well just start a Scott Walker discography thread or something. At least I would if I didn't have to listen to his 70s output again along the way...

As for Painted From Memory, it's a bit mediocre in places, but when it hits the heights it's pretty damn immense.

The Microphones - The Glow Pt 2
Sonic Youth - Murray Street
Magic Lantern - High Beams
Neil Perry - Discography
Mohinder - Discography
Flipper - Gone Fishin'
Pocahaunted - Island DiamonRAB

last 3/4 days.

Very much enjoying Kingdom of Rust by Doves tonight... I love the sense of urgency, added electricity this album contains... I always felt this band deserved Coldplay levels of attention... yet they seem to float underneath that level of attention, although they have quite a bit of notoriety in their homeland and abroad....

^ Great stuff, I really love Everett's songwriting. I think this bit of trivia from Wikipedia makes the album so much better...

It's like... you have banRAB like My Chemical Romance spouting nonsense about kissing corpses and whatever, and then you have guys who really know what it's like, and they don't get nearly the same amount of recognition/success for their work. Depressing all in itself, really.

It is of the electronic variation. Some hip-hop influence, perhaps if you're a fan of Prefuse 73 and Dimlite you'd like this (there is no heavy use of vocal samples here though). There is some really thick funky bass in here, for lack of a better way to describe it. I've posted this first one a few times in various threaRAB:

This one's from the previous album, which is also great:

KING CURTIS-LIVE AT FILLMORE WEST
Live-At-Fillmore-West-W-Bonus-Tracks.jpg

Superb live Jazz album from 1971, with hints of Funk and Soul. This baby has taken a long time for me to track down. Originally I only wanted the cover of A WHITER SHADE OF PALE, but upon acquiring the whole album, I have fell hook , line and sinker for it.

REVEREND AND THE MAKERS-THE STATE OF THINGS

An album that I have no right to liking. A cross between !!! and Arctic Monkeys is the best desciption, but it is just so catchy! Perfect for work.

This is a definite grower and I can see myself going back to this frequently.

Yeah I have only just discovered this. How behind the times am I? It get's better every time I hear it. Maybe a lack of knowledge and fan baggage has helped my opinion remaining neutral.
