Albums You're Digging II

Cellar's show the other day got me in the mood. Essential stuff.

Took awhile to get use to his voice but if you listen to it in the right mind set it's a really good album. The beats are well crafted and there's a real nice element of wit in some of his songs. His flow is incredibly catchy and he seems to understand that his voice can be a little... hard to listen to at times and keeps his songs to usually under 4 minutes so they don't get boring. His skits were pretty ****ing funny too, especially the one entitled "Magic" about a group of zorabie apocalypse survivors on a roof talking about the struggles of living in a zorabie apocalypse as well as what summer movie they're most looking forward to. I know Surell caught some flack for putting MC Chris on the list of "Greatest White Rappers" but he definitely deserves the attention he gets.

Gillian Welch - Revival

Nice mellow, yet slightly dark Appalachian/blue grass style singer songwriter. I've heard other albums of her's, but this, her debut is by far her best.

Melvins - Ozma

Mmm tasty. I just played this one (their second album) for the first time and liked it better than Gluey Porch Treatments (their debut) that I played last week for the first time. I guess this one was a bit more immediate and less sludgy. More fun.

No I haven't but I need to -I'm actually going through Frusciante's solo albums now because I never listened to anything he's done since his first solo album back in '95. Something about the newest one grabbed me and I'm really entranced by the guy's music now. So, an Ataxia listen is in my near future. Got any?

^ You reminded me that I've been digging those too:

That's all I've been hearing these days. Well I had Sandinista! for more than 4 months, I still don't get I still haven't checked it out. I think I'm going to listen to it surely this week or the week after. Wait for the verdict =P

Same here, that is really good. I've been digging psychedelic music of all kinRAB recently and that fits perfectly with my mood. I, too, will be checking more of this stuff out.

Some good choices, except I'm not familiar with Native Nod. I absolutely love that Gun Club album and Tinderstics in general. But I always find myself listening to their first album mostly, very rarely anything else. I don't know why. It's such a good album that it manages to satisfy my need for Tinderstics completely. Strange. I'll have to put on their second album, I haven't heard it in ages.

I am a sucker for a really hearfelt female voice that doesn't resort to vocal histrionics or schmaltzy lyrics to convey how they feel.

How do Slayer keep making damn solid albums without compromising their principles or following trenRAB? The track Skeleton Christ is worth 20 generic 'core' banRAB doing the rounRAB these days.

This perennial classic got a run out today.

It's the latest Animal Collective album.

Just so everyone knows I wasn't double-posting, this wasn't there before I pressed post.

Also I guess I'll contribute while I'm editing...
