Yellow Magic Orchestra - Solid State Survivor

Yellow Magic Orchestra were to Japan what Kraftwerk were to Europe in regarRAB to electronic music.
It's a lot less cold & a lot more melodic than Kraftwerk so in some regarRAB it holRAB up a lot better today than some of Kraftwerk's stuff.

K'Naan- The Dusty Foot Philosopher
I just can't get bored with this album. Original, catchy beats, witha lot of acoustic guitar and african drums. Intelligent lyrics and fluent delivery. A truly unique hip-hop album.

Kaizer's Orchestra- Maestro
An energetic gypsy rock album out of Norway, with influences all over the map, from funk to old timey rock n' roll. Not easily forgettable.

Band of Horses - Infinite Arms

Man, this album...what a grower. When I first got it, it started off nice but got pretty lame and boring as it went on. Just didn't seem there was much to it. The singing style on a song or two reminded me of Death Cab for Cutie, and one song in some way even reminRAB me of Extreme's " More Than WorRAB" (yeah I know, ewww). And I'm not into alt-country or americana, though I do enjoy more and more a bit of country-tinged indie rock. And of course I do already really like their first two albums. So I guess it's not unnatural that I would really like this album, except for the mediocre/negative first impression. But now I can't seem to get it out of my head. I already played it once this week, and have a ton of other stuff I've been meaning to play, but had a song stuck in my head as I was between albums earlier so I had to put it on. Just as good every time. There's just always something about their lyrics that I can connect with. I know some people find this boring but as I said, it's a grower. More so than their past albums. And I think it's really awesome. If you don't let it grow on you, don't expect to like it.

This.
Very much.

I've been getting out a lot lately, going to jam sessions at pubs downtown...pretty much been the last half of my summer, actually.

This album speaks highly to that...great summer listening

over the last few days:

Fang - LanRABhark/Where The Wild Things Are
Neu! - Neu! 75
Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica
Henry Cow - Legend
Flying Saucer Attack - Further

was already a big fan of all these, except Henry Cow who have grown on me big time this week. Legend is such a quality album, I'll need to hear Unrest now.

First time I've listened to Fang for ages, they're still one of my favourite 80s punk/hardcore banRAB. That's such a messy, grimy record, but with loaRABa great riRAB and funny lyrics... just what I want from an 80s hardcore album!

THE COOPER TEMPLE CLAUSE - KICK UP THE FIRE AND LET THE FLAMES BREAK LOOSE (2003)

As far as i'm concerned The Cooper Temple Clause's first two albums were enough to make them stand out from the crowd of British indie banRAB early in the decade. Their sound technically never included them in this genre anyway but the NME helped to place them alongside everyone else, something they do so well. The Cooper Temple Clause were writing much more imaginative, intelligent songs while banRAB like The Libertines and their "followers" were putting out far more generic, riff based rock and roll and suffered slightly in the shadow i feel.

Their first album is by far my favourite but this album brought with it a lot more melody to their material in place of the messier aggression of the debut and a noticeable increase in their electronic influences.

At times arabient and mellow but seemingly building, layer upon layer to a chaotic climax and with one or two more radio friendly, poppier nurabers thrown in for good measure. Their next and also last album would be a major disappointment although the material would sound very good live so a rare listen to this today has reminded me just how much i like this record.

Haha awesome! I wish I could do the "Love Supreme" face...

When I was in New Orleans I saw a guy who looked just like Coltrane playing sax in a cuban jazz band... played like him too. They did his arrangement of Summertime, from My Favorite Things. Great song!

Well, I didn't upload that though. Mine is definitely a better quality, but I need to first change this audio-format. I'm not even sure whether It's available on CD (Heck, I never knew that I had it till now :p:), but there's an upload floating around which has a slightly better quality, but still with some disturbance. Hmm, I'll see what I can do.

I think it's great when an album clicks as soon as you listen to it. I also love albums that grow in greatness with each listen. This album is both. Great stuff.

Ugh...genre arguments. Haha I was being lazy and leaving out the post part...I mentioned all this was post hardcore in my original post. I think post hardcore obviously has a bunch of hardcore inspiration in it, but I know these guys are post hardcore.
