Albums You're Digging II

I actually agree with most of what you've said :thurab: It's funny how you say that Lateralus flows well; when I was younger I was completely obsessed with Tool's use of the Fibonacci sequence in that album, and I read that thing about how when you rearrange the tracks into a different order they all flow perfectly.Like, the random pluckings at the start of Schism end up to actually be the finishing chorRAB of Parabola. It was a pretty neat discovery and I enjoyed listening to that particular flow.

^ I added that to my wishlist when you first mentioned it, Pete, but haven't checked it out yet. Nice to see so many other people like it.

Um, yes please! This is very enjoyable. I guess you could say it's more accessible than their first album, but I'm digging it right off the bat. It rocks and it's catchy!

The Library Is On Fire - Magic Windows, Magic Nights (2010)

Great throwback band to the '90's indie rock scene. Short, faster, and to the point.

After-The-Goldrush2.jpg

This is the most beautiful Neil Young album I have listened to from start to finish. All the songs are simply great.

I got this album a long time ago and never appreciated it until recently. 2pac has grown on me a lot and his beats are so cool and dark and old school not to mention the fact that he has a great style.

Dan Melchior und Das Menace - Obscured by Fuzz
Brilliant garage rock that's a kind of cross between Billy Childish & Half Man Half Biscuit with a bit of psychadelia mixed in for good measure. Most people here would hate it, I don't care. He did an album with Billy Childish too, I HAVE to hear that.

Rondos - Destroy The Entertainment
They're like a Dutch communist version of Crass. This is a 49 song double album retrospective..... with one riff.

Diamond Head - Lightning To The Nations
Been on a bit of a NWOBHM kick lately. This is the original self released debut album rather than the slick glossy major label remake. This band should have been huge.

Gillan - Future Shock
Crap cover, great tunes.

Just giving this a good listen for the first time in years. Despite being one of his more mellow efforts, it's still as dark and contemplative as anything Nick Cave was writing back then (being wedged between Tender Prey and Henry's Dream as it is), and it's definitely one of his best and more overlooked albums. Shame about the rubbish sleeve cover though.

GIRLS-ALBUM

wtf? Brad Stengel likes an album overly hyped by all the major indie-media outlets?

Yes. I'm guilty as usual, but what can I say? This caters to my Jonathan Richman fetish way too much for me to think it's anything but brilliant pop music.

John Fahey - The Transfiguration Of Blind Joe Death

really into this just now, he really is a master guitar player. such an alluring sound he creates with just the guitar, I'm going to have to check out much more of his work.

I think you're probably right... I would pare it down to something like "made a significant contribution tok the growth of Alternative music... it was one of many albums that kinda synthesized the alternative sound...

Thanks to Comus's Review Corner - I just discovered this..

..and have been listening to it extensively.
I'm not sure if they meant it to be, but I think this is the closest approximation of Loveless that I have ever heard.

I love that album :D The opening track Twinkle blows my head every time i hear it. When We Were Young is such a great song, i don't like the video for it though. Overall it's the 2nd best Irish rock album of the 90's :)
