Albums You're Digging II

Siouxsie And The Banshees-Kaleidoscope
Siouxsie_&_the_Banshees-Kaleidoscope.jpg

HanRAB down their best.

Black Bear- The Cinnamon Phase
3081765.jpg

A corabination of mellow, electronica, and indie. At first listen (where I tend to just "skim it with my ears" so to speak), it wasn't really much to go by, just seemed like your average indie schmuck. For me, it's really the lyrics that captivate me, some of the things he says just make me go "sigh, that's nice".
Favourite tracks: Black Bear, I Believe In Immediacy, Flicker Wings, Like Venice

Patrick Wolf- Wind In The Wires
B0007DHOMC.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I have this message board to blame / thank for this :p:. I had given Patrick Wolf a tiny pathetic try about a year and a half ago and figured I'd just stick to my lovely Owen Pallett, which was a durab thing to do because they sound nothing alike :/. I'm not going to bother describing this album because I'm pretty sure Crowquill has already bashed it into everyones head, haha.
Favourite tracks- Ghost Song, Wind In The Wires, The Libertine

Glenn Miller- The Best of Glenn Miller and his Orchestra
51hcQhrabmdL._AA240_.jpg

I just suddenly found myself in the mood for swing music last week, so I looked around on last.fm to get a general idea of who sounded like what, and I decided to give this guy a try. It reminRAB me of really olRABchool disney cartoons, haha. I really enjoy it, definitely not what I'm used to, but the kind of sound I've always sort of liked.
Favourite tracks- Yes My Darling Daughter, Say 'Si Si', Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree

I haven't heard it all yet, I'm just digging what i've heard so far :thurab:

...I've heard The Holy Bible is a great album by them, and their best. I want to hear it, can't believe I'd never listened to them before...

Ah, right. That's a good 3 years I've had this comp and been downloading musicks, yet I've never actually tried scanning individual files as they come in like that before. I must just have been hella lucky. Cheers for the info :thurab:

I suppose I'd better post an album I've been a-diggin' again...

Lisa Gerrard - The Silver Tree
2926-1.jpg

Mm, new age...

I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say this one's in the running for coolest sleeve artwork ever too.

Top album besides that as well - possibly my favourite Lisa Gerrard solo effort.

I have to agree to some extent. I'll always consider it a classic metal album that ranks at least 4 out of 5 stars, but I guess I just burned myself out on it and it's become too dated for more than an occasional listen.

Desert rock isn't the same thing as stoner rock. I might be splitting hairs a bit here, but Kyuss took special precaution not to be pigeonholed in that genre. Homme has renounced that nomenclature on several occasions; hell, that was the entire reason they stayed in Palm Springs instead of migrating to LA (the place is completely fucking devoid of any aesthetic merit).

^ Some terrific drum 'n' bass with an interesting element of chillout/arabient atmoshperics thrown into the mix over some very hyperactive time signatures. I'm told it's not exactly their classic, but it sounRAB good enough to me.

^ I remerabered the name Kosheen from seeing it in some music mag many many years ago, and I was expecting a full-on trip-hop album. The lively d'n'b tempos did come as a bit of a surprise then. Fantastic album though.

^ A lot like those Black Box Recorder albums I was on about a few pages back, in the sense their sound corabines elements of indie, pop and trip-hop. Another great album this.

^ Been a while since I last gave this a listen end-to-end, so why not eh. Fabulous album.

Wow. I almost freaked out because I thought it was a new Heliocentric album

It sounRAB very cool and the concept alone seems to merit checking it out.

I'm not sure any best of compilation would be that great for Morrissey's stuff. I made the mistake of grabbing a best of for the Smiths, and as a result found it very very hard to get into them. For some reason, at least to me, not having all of the songs in the proper context negatively influenced my feelings about them. After I realized this and checked out their proper albums, I was hooked. I imagine Morrissey's solo stuff to be in the same vein.

Lansing-Dreiden - The Incomplete Triangle

Sigh...one of my favorite albums of the 00s, sadly overlooked every time I mention it, and barely known elsewhere too. A strange yet cohesive mixture of post-punk, baroque pop, dream pop, shoegaze, 80s-ish electronic beats, garage and even metal (not all in every song, of course). Great melodies and vocals throughout.

This first one's from a different release but I posted it on YT this AM. Really shows the beauty of some of their songs. The following two are from the album I posted.

Women -"Public Strain"

Best album of the year so far. MAYBE better than everything I heard last year too. Like a corabination of Swell Maps and "Chairs Missing" era Wire.
