Albums You're Digging II

SounRAB of The Universe By Depeche Mode.... VERY suprisingly impressed by this sophisticated, intense, interesting and sonically diverse album... by a band that could potentially be rehashing their best moments (are you reading this Metallica?) this is quite a bold, good move...

hmm first post in what has to be like 5 months, but digging this hardcore right now

Dirty Elegance - Ode to Bartleby

I was being sarcastic to a point Rick, though I also clarified my particular concern in my post right after that. Plus...I like Radiohead. = /

Anyway, something else I've been digging-

Night Sun - Mournin' (1972)

Some of the best obscure hard rock this side of Berlin that's even a bit adventurous here and there, such as the dueling sax/guitar firefight here on 'Don't Start Flying".

Second that one. Not to say Daisies of the Galaxy is a bad album by any stretch of the imagination, but I mean... Novocaine, Susan's House, Beautiful Freak, My Beloved Monster, Mental, Your Lucky Day all on one album? Every track is superb. There's a few I can't stand on Daisies of the Galaxy, but take that with a grain of salt because I am one of the only people in the world that I know that rarely if ever likes slide guitar.

This one was recommended to me by a guy at the record store, and it's pretty good. An all girl band that plays some lo-fi pop with punk ferocity and some noisy influences.

Where the hell did this come from? It just showed up in my iPod, and they're damn good. For the most part just an acoustic guitar and 2 girls singing and the occasional violin, and the result is brilliant. I'm starting a thread on them now.

Spacemen 3 - Playing With Fire (1989)

I listened to this today after god knows how long. It was one of my all time favorites. And it still is, it's holding up. I could probably listen to 'Honey' on repeat, one of the best opening tracks I've heard. This is, to me, the best Spacemen 3 album.

Crime In Stereo "I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone"

I'd never heard this band before and based on their description I went into this album with expectations of a fairly decent though not necessarily memorable punk album and came out pleasantly surprised at how much better than that it was. I'd almost say it's more on the indie rock side of things than hardcore punk.

Hah well I appreciate the thought and it's nice to see that my music posts don't always go unseen. I've mostly been looking at what's been released this year when it comes to stoner metal because I'm thinking about making a series of playlists on my 8tracks account to specific genres, sort of a 'best of the year' type stuff. I definitely will go back and check out more from the band Cathedral though, their newest album The Guessing Game (2010) is long, but it's well worth the listen, and apparently their '90's stuff is really worth looking out for.

Kingdom of Rust - Doves

Love the way this one sounRAB more energetic, lively and louder than previous Doves releases, yet retains some of that mystery, and most of the feel of tgheir earlier stuff... plus I just love this band's sense of melody, sense of musical adventure... although I am fan of Coldplay, I still think these giys are much better songwriters...

What is Free To A Good Home - Emily Haines and The Soft Skeleton

Just an EP, with some un-released stuff and whatnot
But I'm so in love with it at the moment,
It's got some really good songs on it
Telethon and The Bank being my favorite

Wake Up and Smell the Carcass - This great Carcass starter cd is a cleverly structured backward anthology of rarities and outtakes from the band's recording history. Unlike most comps., this one gets better and better as it nears the end, beginning with the more recent and very accessible Carcass style "rot and roll" where Bill Steer plays guitar hero, and culminates with their legendary and innovative grindcore days.

As I've mentioned before, I love Chomp. It's the only album I have by them though. I definitely have to give Gyrate a chance too.

And speaking of Chomp, have you ever heard REM's cover of "Crazy"?

i agree with all the suggestion esp. Children Of God.....but seeing as you seem to have a flare for experimental/drone weird stuff and the fact that you're listening to Oxbow...i suggest starting with Soundtracks For The Blind....just be sure to play the 'Silver' disc before the 'Copper' disc

Rival Schools - United By Fate

solid indie rock....i honestly have nothing at all bad to say about this band....except maybe they were very short lived and only released one album....i love Walter Schreifels song writing and lyrics....this is a step away from Quicksand but still encompasses great "hardcore" style guitar with just amazing harmony.....it crazy to think this is almost 10 years old!.....i just read that they will be releasing a new album in march....looks like 2011 might be as good as 2010!!!!!!!
