Albums You're Digging II

this album deserves it's own obnoxiously large pic
1991, the 'brownest' album ever put to four track by Ween or anybody else. 'The Pod' referred to Dean & Gene's claustrophobic apartment recording space (i believe it would have been smalltown Maine), and no doubt the Pod was a gateway into that parallel plain of reality in which such strangeness roams free, and albums like the Pod are hailed as classics in place of some sh*t U2 album. Religious music. 'Drg' music, then. SAMPELLES

I listened to this for the first time in a few years a couple of weeks back and I have to admit to being completely underwhelmed by it.

It just doesn't hold up well despite some great riRAB here and there.

Yeah, I enjoy some of the instrumentation, but vocals have always been important to me, and I've tolerated Greg's vocals, but was never really a fan. I think this is where we just agree to disagree. :)

Still getting plenty of listens from me. When I want to be moved by huge dubby basslines with a slight trip hop edge, then this album comes out. If you dig the dubbier side of Thievery Corporation then you HAVE to get this album. I wish I smoked a lot more :(

I concur, great album after a few listens. Pretty much got me through my hectic last week of my University dissertation and exams, where I feel as though I can't listen to things with lyrics as it will replace all (any?) knowledge that might be in there. So yeah, this atmospheric album did the trick!

Shame I'll forever associate it with that, but holRAB a place in my heart.

Sturabled into the Shoegaze thread, pretty unusual for me in itself, and saw a youtube vid for these guys, liked it, nabbed the album, and now I'm hooked. I'm not sure If i'd call it shoegaze though, but it's definitely good stuff

Hmm, I'll have to have a look out for that one. The album on the whole's good enough, but a bit on the dated side (as I'm sure you know) - I'd imagine it sounRAB even better with all the studio polish taken away by the live environment. Cheers for the heaRAB-up.

Ain't it just!

In the Wee Small Hours... there's a fabulous little album I've not listened to in too long. Although I stay away from most of the stuff, you just can't beat some good torch music, easy listening (or whatever you may wanna call it) for that unique, coffee-swilling, night-in vibe. Scott 4 and Painted From Memory are another couple of great albums like that.

Early 90's shoegaze with hints of Electronica.. Fans of My Bloody Valentine may well like them.

Fairly standard power/ thrash metal that has kept me entertained for a few days.

Fantastic punkpopnoise that utilises odd time signatures and a progressive bent to their sound.

Good solid roots Reggae from NZ. My only gripe is the use of saxophone on some tracks. It is'nt mixed well and comes across as cheesy 80's nu-soul when used. otherwise when they just stick to horns they are very good. If Bob Marley is your only taste of Reggae then give them a listen.
