Albums You're Digging II

So Television,Gang Of Four, the post-punk movement,The Feelies,Talking HeaRAB, and Modern Lovers had nothing to do with it, and the idea of REM "creating" alternative rock seems to conviently overlook contemporary groups like Orange Juice,The Replacements,Husker Du,Meat Puppets,The Cure,The Smiths, and Violent Femmes, all of whom released material either before Murmur or almost simultaenusly which is very much alternative rock.

Stop toeing the official line Zero1986, I thought you knew better.

Alot of NWOBHM metal banRAB have dated quite badly. Its a fairly hit and miss genre for me, some of it still sounRAB relevant to me and some of it I just can't get into at all. Witchfinder's debut though is one of my favourites and I think it still sounRAB very relevant. I can hear a lot of Witchfinder and a few other Sabbath-esque banRAB in some of the more traditional doom from the present day.

Awesome stuff.

From a songwriting standpoint you may be right, but Sufjan's beautifully fragile voice and brilliant use of melody and instrumentation give him the edge for me. Could really do without all those "experimental" outreaches though... The BQE, Enjoy Your Rabbit, etc.

^ Oh i'm sure i'll check it out as i do like the one album i have.

I often check out albums people post about in here, even if i dont always comment on it. I have checked out a few of yours i'm sure. I may be way off but was it you who once posted about Scarling? If it wasn't, it doesn't matter. If i was to look back through your posts I know that I would find a few of yours that I grabbed.

Last night I listened to some old faves... namely Anthems for the Damned by Filter and Fuberal By Arcade Fire... both were exceptionally good listening, and well worth the time!

I know its been panned by critics, but screw it, I gotta say I have been enjoying Battle for the Sun by Placebo... then again, I shouldn"t be suprised this got bad rap from critics, they've never been a critical favorite, but I've always liked them!

I thought it was pretty good I could definatley see some replay value in this for me. I posted a review of this album under thoughts on albums I listened to today as well as a review of Chinese Democracy.

That's a great one. Iceland's finest!

No More Stories Are Told Today... - Mew

Just rediscovered this band and picked up their new one, inconveniently after I made my top albums of '09 list.

This will be the next thing I hunt down. You have great taste in music.

IslanRAB - Return to the Sea

After the ****fest that was Vapours, and seeing their lead singer come out to play completely smashed, apparently trying to copy Wavves, I all but forgot about this album. It's like a slightly less experimental Unicorns without any of the electronics, and a nice tropical tinge.

MXPX - Let It Happen

Feel free to give me as much **** as you want; this was the only MXPX album ever worth owning. Compilation of b-sides up through '98. After '98, they turned into a very very generic pop-punk band, but say what you will they were actually some good punk rock up to this point. They've even got some great b-sides on here that are like hardcore with an alternative band's singer. ReminRAB me of the summer before I went to middle school.
