Albums You're Digging II

Mmmmmmm, nice. A very easy album to enjoy.

Yeah, soulful's a good word to describe it. It's surprisingly funky in places, or at least much funkier than you'd expect a Dylan album to be, like on Gotta Serve Somebody for instance. There's the odd interesting smattering of gospel around it too. As I say, musically it's a very good, and I never really had a problem with Dylan's voice on it. It's just that the Christian message in the lyrics becomes a bit too overbearing for my tastes here and there. I'd still recommend it to anyone as a good album though.

It's well documented that I am in the minority of people who don't like Stone Roses much and on top of that I find their second album much more preferable but my Dad visited yesterday and as he frequents car boot sales a lot (similar to America's yard sales) he bought this for me as well as this:

He had no idea if I had them (I didn't) but it was appreciated and I still think that half of Stone Roses debut is really really good but the jingle jangle of those guitars does nothing for me a lot of the time.

They still have taken a place in my collection though :)

He did also pick up a Darkness CD for me which is quite frankly unforgiveable. Sorry Dad :(

The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree (2005)

More of a recent acquisition, but a brilliant one. Indie Folk with lyrics referring to the lead singer's childhood. Quite a powerful album when you yourself had a nice childhood, this makes you feel like you didn't. The only Mountain Goats album I have, but it won't be the last.

Graveworm - Scourge of Malice
One word - Epic!
Good to stray away from the usual rawer black metal to something different once in a while. And it includes an awesome Fear of the dark cover as well!

80`s music does indeed make for a good hangover remedy...

Last night I indulged in some good 80's Australian pub / indie rock.... namely Ghost Nation by Hunters and Collectors and 16 Lovers Lane by the Go Betweens...

Man, I still can't get enough of Ki by Devin Townsend... totally brilliant blend of sounRAB, from the most laid back stuff he' ever done to his bone crunching heaviness, this is damn brilliant album, from a guy whose work I've always admired.... but he' totally bettered himself and I have a good feeling he's going to keep getting better...

Orange Juice - the Glasgow School
excellent jangly post punk

Tim Hecker - Harmony In Ultraviolet
my favourite by Hecker that I've heard, really wintery arabient album.

Jurassic 5 -s/t
first time listening to this today, seems like a great hiphop album, will listen again tomorrow.

Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight
awesome scottish indie-folk group, my favourite local band just now.
