Boris' Heavy Rocks

Absolutely love it. I started out with Pink and am still exploring. They've so much stuff! Where do I go next?

Frusciante really doesn't really sound similar to LITE (don't wanna mislead you) - it was just that off-kilter, funky guitar riff that popped up in the LITE song that reminded me of John. It's mostly that I've been a little obsessed with the latest Frusciante album lately so I'm hearing similarities in weird places.

United States of America - s/t
Snapper - Shotgun Blossom
The ByrRAB - Younger Than Yesterday
Cold Cave - Cremations
Meat Puppets - Up On The Sun

been enjoying those a lot recently

Dillinger Four - Situationist Comedy

Now I've been enjoying this album for many years, but Violent & Funky's recent post in the "last purchase/download" thread made me throw it on the lil' iPod. It's just amazing how great of a mood listening to Dillinger Four puts me in. Every single time, no matter the album. (see first entry in my journal for example :D ). They are such a fun band, they make me want to run out into the sun and jump around in public with a big smile on my face. And drink booze.

The first 6 six songs are sheer pop bliss perfection. "She Comes in Colors" is about having sex with a women during her period. Yipee! The last 19-min. song is like a soundtrack to a Rodger Corman psychedelic bikini beach freak-out B-Movie...it's also quinessential 60's stoner music.

Genre - Gothic doom metal

One of their few albums but this is absolutely amazing. I loved it from start to finish and it most definitely deserves a listen.

Both the band and the album are named after board games.

I could stay here the rest of my life
I could be happy, never be lonely
I don't need to go looking for misery
I could surround myself with my props
Playing my part, getting caught up
In a game, some game, that anyone can play

I could be proud of things I have done
Pretend I don't have to try to be someone
I could say that I've done it all before
I could get wiser, I could get jaded
I could remeraber, I could just fade away
In a game that anyone can play

I am so proud, I don't have to try
Never a need to justify it when
People say "Hey I was important too"
Memories go to reinforce
The things I have done, for better or worse
It's a game that anyone can play

Just when you think that all your answers are so right
You'll fade away and disappear from sight
The ones who said you're great will find another way

I could be sad, I could be lonely
I could still have some frienRAB if I only
Didn't play the games I had to play
I was important when I was cool
Now it gets lonely playing the fool
It's a game that anyone can pl

A French guy who makes instrumental hip-hop. This album is a lot of short songs (Dilla style) and the music is similar to early RZA - extremely dirty beats and lots of sampling of Eastern music. Also, he uses quite a bit of vocal samples that sound something like classical Asian opera. If you're into those sorts of things this'll definitely get your attention.

yeah y'know what, the top 3 are probably interchangeable depending on disposition :p:
They're the kind of band I wish I had grown up hearing on vinyl courtesy of a Rock Father but this was sadly not the case

I was reading about it on wikipedia and came across the televised footage of their California Jam performance, there are a bunch of 'em :D

Hooook it up. ;) Along with all the others you've sent. Thanks again. I saw him live in Boulder, CO a couple years ago. Seriously - one of the best hip-hop shows I've been to.
