Albums You're Digging II

Great album Zarko! One of my favorite early era Church albums!

Was getting into a whole plethora of great albums last night... quite a range of diverse different styles between them all too... a most enjoyable even of music listening, even though i stayed up way too late and now i am feeling it due to the fact my daughter usually wakes me no later than 8 o' clock... nevertheless, i digress, the musical goodness that colored my night last night included...

Type O Negative - October Rust
Devin Townsend Project - Addicted!
Paul Dempsey -- Everything is True
Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back
The E.L.F - Stevie Nicks Hearts EP

Lotsa enjoyment!

Free the Robots - Ctrl Alt Delete

I am totally in love with this album right now. It's not quite as jazzy or psychedelic as last year's EP but it definitely makes up for those with it's straight up electronica/ glitch hop approach. I would highly advise fans of electronic music to give this artist a listen. Here's a little taste:

Toro Y Moi - Causers Of This

Ok I'm not good at describing WHY I like it but I'll try. Right from the beginning, the chill vibe this album gives off is sooooo soothing. Each song is catchy in it's own way which I love, there isn't a single song that's skip-worthy. I tend to sit outside on a brisk summer evening and just put this album on repeat... I recommend it to anyone who likes dreamy/indie music.

^ Grand Prix and Bandwagonesque are my favourites by Teenage Fanclub, both awesome recorRAB.

Currently digging Os Mutantes' self-titled, been meaning to check them out for ages and I'm very glad I did.

I liked TiMT but not really now. They did certainly lose their edge after The Holy Bible but there are a couple of good recorRAB since that one. THB is one of my favourite recorRAB, i love very nearly every little thing about it. My avatar used to be Richey EdwarRAB holding his hand to his temple like a gun. I think its very nearly flawless.

That being said though, Lifeblood is a terrific album. It couldn't be any different in comparison but it's beautiful. I like that they took a risk with it and went in another direction and i think they got it right.

Journal for Plague Lovers is another great album and the closest the band have ever and will ever come to The Holy Bible.

I totally agree with that, they pretty much did start as a joke band though. Chasing The Grail shocked me too, after the hit-and-miss All That Remains.

A few more albums I've been giving airtime lately...

^ Featuring David Gedge, lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the mighty Wedding Present, this being his project after they split. A few good songs, but most it's a bit average - seems to try too hard to conjure a slower, indie-pop kinda sound that doesn't really yield very good results. Basically he's much, much better at the faster stuff he did with the Wedding Present.

^ Not a bad album by any means but definitely the least interesting XTC album. Recorded as it was in 1984, it's the only album of their's I've heard that sounRAB at all dated.

^ I won't say much as this due a nice, long-winded review from me in the near future, so I'll just say this is the finest Burritos album.

^ One I've been meaning to get my hanRAB on for years and only just have as of a few days ago. Absolutely loved it. It takes the promise of the preceding Take Them On On Your Own, re-wires it to a country rock motor and produces some fantastic results. Needless to say, it's fast worked its way up my albums of the decade list.

Lies! Raw yes (in a good way), but I don't find it that stripped down. And I think it's well written...it could use slightly better production, but the songs are just great. WorlRAB Apart is their worst, IMO.

I quite like that one too, although a few of the tracks are a wee bit disappointing. On the other hand, some of their best songs that I've heard are on it too. I've a lot of Bardo Pond still to hear yet, though.
