Albums You're Digging II

That's what I love about them. I have yet to meet someone who listened to something like Goo or Daydream Nation and just immediately loved it. It takes a bit of patience to kind of "understand" everything they are trying to do. If I meet someone who is a Sonic Youth fan, then I know we will probably get along musically. It says something about their love and understanding of music.

THE FRAMES-FITZCARRALDO

I have had a track on my hard drive which I really loved and I knew it was from a Trevor Horn compilation album, but the track had no info. After listening to the track again I decided to do some digging. I found the artist and then the album. I was so glad I did. The Frames are a great Irish band who seemed to have slipped under the radar. Their music is a sort of emotional pop/rock with a beautifully subtle violin on most of their tracks. Although it is not the most original music ever, it is utterly sincere. very impressed.

MACHINE HEAD-THE BLACKENING
machine_head_02.jpg

One of last years best metal albums and a great return to form from Machine Head. Unashamedly retro and staying true to their thrash roots. This has everything you want from a metal album. Chunky riRAB, a bit of speed and decent production.

BURNING SPEAR-MARCUS GARVEY

If your only taste of reggae is Bob Marley and you want to go further, then this classic 70's roots album is a great place to start. Focusing on the life of Marcus Garvey, who was a highly influential and revered Jamacian who began a movement to claim Africa back from the colonials, this is a rich and well produced reggae album that is something of a classic in the Reggae world.

TANK-THIS MEANS WAR

I was in the mood for some NWOBHM,so i listened to one of my favourites from that era. They definitely ripped off Motorhead, but ever since hearing the brilliant opening track JUST LIKE SOMETHING FROM HELL way back when, I have been hooked. Good solid British 80's metal

Shining—BlackJazz
After seeing this one mentioned around rab several times I decided to check it out was very impressed. Amazing stuff, kind of like an evil sounding version of Battles. I'm really looking forward to listening to some more of their albums, from what I've read it sounRAB like they're all very different from each other.

This Is Hardcore - Pulp

One of the finst pieces that 90's britpop produced... such a listenable, "fun" sounding album but with actually quite dark and brooding concepts... definitely my favorite album by the band!

The general consensus seems to be that this is better than Curses and right now i don't agree but this is still Andy Falkous and co at their prime. I'm struggling to think of banRAB that are this abrasive yet accessible at the same time going the rounRAB right now. The humours still here too. Bring on more i say.

Highlights: Arming Eritrea, Chin Music, Stand By Your Manatee, Drink Nike.

Tom Burbank - Famous First WorRAB (2006)

I've had a digital copy of this album for several years, maybe even as far back as 2007. However, it always sat in my backlog, but I'd hear a song once in a while when shuffling. I finally decided to give it a spin a few months ago because one of these songs impressed me. And indeed, it's a great album. I'm only now getting around to a second listen and really, this is quite amazing stuff. Especially considering its release date of 2006. You'll find here some electronic music that is basically a mixture of IDM and glitch-hop. This guy is from LA and the sound is definitely what you're hearing from that city these days, with Flying Lotus, Lone, edIT, and a host of others. Granted Flying Lotus and edIT both released their debuts the same year, the sound has really exploded in the last few years and I think Tom Burbank deserves as much credit as those two. Note that the IDM/Glitch-hop sound really took off in 2001 with acts like Prefuse 73, Dabrye and Machine Drum, but the sound I'm talking about is the latest evolution of that, the more "wonky" stuff that seems to be distincly LA recently. Maybe I just wasn't quite ready for this when I first listened to the samples in 07 or whatever. It feels fresh as fuck right now, as if it had just come out in the past year. Fits right in with today's scene.

Edited to add a tune. This is quite similar to edIT's debut at the beginning, with less excessive glitching, and a bit more laid back. I'd post one that differenciates him more, but it's the only one on YT.

REM - Live at the Olympia.... lotsa old stuff and unformed (at the time) new stuff = great, off the cuff feeling live album... free of the polish that sometime mars live recorRAB, this one has lots of banter between Stipe, the audience, the band and it just sounRAB like everyone in the room is having a darn great time, band included.... which must have been a revelation for the nervous band going into recording Accelerate after the plodding Around the Sun

I've started digging Kyuss a lot lately and this is one of my favorite albums of theirs.

I recently got a couple remixed tracks from this album and decided to take another listen to the album again. It's so great; still gives me chills.

Araboy+Dukes+1.jpg

This is underrated stoner music at it's finest.

Is there really much to say?

my friend recently showed me this and I was captivated by the atmosphere. Quite fantastic.

A newer Ep from a melodic death/power metal group I discovered a while ago. Great guitarwork and catchy melodies, especially from the keyboarRAB.

Haha, for real. :D Both great albums. I'd already heard the debut before Disco Volante, and it was still a total wut? mind-fuck.

Quicksand - Manic Compression

It'll never be as good as Slip, but for some reason it's really doing it for me right now. I'm enjoying it more than other times. There are so many moments (on both albums) that remind me of Fireside. But more hardcore. I think it's in the vocals. Haven't played Fireside in some time, gonna have to bust some out soon.
