Albums You're Digging II

It's grown on me that much yet but i think when i've got to know it a bit more it'll stand well along side the other 2...well maybe not DD 'cause that was amazing!

Excellent album that. Some brilliant grooves and rhythms and that one.

Turin Brakes - JackInaBox

I almost forgot how undeniably immense this album was. Brilliant, laid-back acoustic rock with a little bit of country thrown in to spice things up. The limited edition bonus DVD's great stuff too - might just have to watch it again in a bit.

This has been on my wish list for quite some time, but I've yet to pick it up. I shall do so now.

OOO - Upon Cycles

Haven't played this one in a few years. Abstract electronic music in the vein of Autechre, but at times more playful and definitely more melodic, even if still mostly cold.

I liked This is my Truth... but I dunno, didn't love it... it had some great melodies on it and even some good lyrical ideas but i dunno, I found it a bit too bland and vanilla in places... that's not to say it wouldn't be a wonderful listen to another... it's just not my thing really, not really a fault of the album itself...

Somehow I vever got around to getting "The Good, the Bad and the Queen"... I really oughta, aince I am qquite a fan of Blur at the very least...

Holy shit is this ever an amazing album. Takes everything I liked about Butcher's Ballroom and makes it heavier and more melodic. Seriously 2009 has been one of the best years for music this decade...

I may have to give her a chance. I can honestly say it has never even crossed my mind before to do so. I liked Ash for a while and then grew very bored of them and at least from the outside it appeared as though she didnt really contribute much to the band. When she went solo I just never had any desire to check her out.

Ive just done a little research, sounRAB like something I may need to check out.

I quite like that. I'll have to add this to the list too, even if the list has gotten so far out of hand since I joined this site.

Some good old school Thrash/Death Metal that actually has riRAB and not some idiot grunting and squealing over some non descript noise (yes Job For A Cowboy- I'm looking at you)
Revocation+-+Empire+Of+The+Obscene.jpg

Most modern Ska still goes down the tired old Punk root with predictable riRAB with the odd Ska line thrown in. This is back to the Trad. sound with Horns, multiple vocalists, a touch of Dub and a reverence to the scene that spawned them:

AA-Essential Entertainment. An E.P from a short lived Belgian Post Punk band who sadly never put out anything after this.

I put this lot down as just another run of the mill Ska Punk band but (apart from a couple of tracks) this is almost progressive Ska with many influences bubbling under and a distinct lack of creating by the nurabers 3 minute crowd pleasing ditties.

3: Mickey Avalon - Self Titled Album
Quirky, awkward rap about abstract topics all relating to the life of a city rich boy going insane with drugs and women. However, in an incredibly catchy, contagious way. His voice has an outstanding flow to it and he rhymes outstandingly with awkwardly appropriate music.

Favorite Songs- Roll the Dice, So Rich, So Pretty, Jane Fonda

2: K'naan - The Dusty Foot Philosopher
One of the more classic rap albums I've heard in my day. K'naan's style is exquisite, corabining Michael Franti and Eminem with a smooth, bitter flow and uplifting overtones in which help K'naan's native Kenya. Many African beats make for an unusual sound as well as incorporanting horns in some songs, this album stanRAB one-of-a-kind for me.

Favorite Songs- In The Begginning, Dusty Foot Philosopher, Blues For The Horn

1: Ween - The Mollusk
Well this album is simply a creation. With a flowy, ocean theme the guitars flow in a similar way. They add comedy into their act in an awkward puzzling way as always starting with "Dancing In the Show Tonight" and continuing with "Waving My **** In The Wind" while tossing in ingenius creations of throughout the album including their water themed well-known "Ocean Man." Their experimental sound only becomes more complicated in The Mollusk using unusual synth effects and switching between unusual genres (ie: The Blarney Stone) This album never slows down. It is one of the higher points in 90's music from start to end.

Favorite Songs - The Mollusk, Mutilated Lips, She Wanted To Leave

'Mountains' is indeed a terrible song. Vertigo Of Bliss is a great album though, they were really starting to find their sound on that album. Get Infinity Land next and prepare to be blown away.

"Unwind" from Washing Machine and "Do You Believe In Rapture?" from Rather Ripped, too.

Also, their cover of "Superstar" is amazing. It might be the best thing they've ever done and I'm a huge fan of their catalogue. It's obsess-worthy, in my opinion.
