Albums You're Digging II

How strange. I got this just last night myself; top shelf scotch so far; makes most of today's acclaimed singer/songwriters look like toddlers. :p:

As for me'self-

Gungfly - Please Be Quiet (2009)

An intriguing solo album from the vocalist of one of modern prog. rock's best groups, Beardfish. Contemporary yet vintage, there's some fantastic sonic spirit at work here that I'm really enjoying.

Oh, and 'On and On' is extremely catchy.

My CD is also very old & mangy - I bought it used years ago.
These days such things aren't necessary but before DLs, the used bins at record stores were essential.

Gza/Genius - Liquid SworRAB

I see why he's called the Genius! The most i've heard solo-Wu wise is 2 Ghostface albums and this blows them out of the water. No filler, few skits, just pure brilliant Wu-style hip-hop. And that bass on SworRABmen is just evil.

Right now, for me, it's all about Crowded House's new one, Intriguer.... brilliant piece of Neil Finn songwriting that it is! Also found a bit of love for the last Regurgitator album yesterday, Love and Paranoia.

I see the Radiohead/U2 analogies making sense to a point, but Radiohead's rejection of mainstream popularity post Kid A is where it all enRAB,considering U2 have never strayed from their mission of being huge.

the Horrors 'Primary Colours' (2009)

It's a blurry out-of-focus album cover which belies the My Bloody Valentine/Jesus&Mary Chain-hijacking post-punk contained within. Fair enough, they wear it on their sleeves and it turned out great. The Horrors here are unrecognizable as that 'novelty' garage group you vaguely remeraber from a few years ago, it's a total U-turn, and lead-off single 'Sea Within A Sea' is the unexpected motorik detour and my favourite track. Stupidly postmodern and like everything I suppose, but good fun nonetheless. Although.. I've had this album for most of the year now and there's an inescapable feeling of having opened a Kinder egg to find they left the toy out. German bastarRAB

I was listening to Angel Witch the other day but no I havent, never checked out an album. Its on my list now. I like some of the NWOBHM.

Ill sort a Witchfinder up for you for sure. Ill up one myself as I managed to get it from two different sources with half of the first track missing! There must be some dodgy links about.

But have you ever tried On Avery Island? I've never understood why everyone prefers In The Aeroplane Over the Sea over this one. I mean sure there are some great songs on it, but I can't help but think people go goo-goo ga-ga over it for indie cred, because it's "weird". Again I like it, I just really think the first album is better and warrants equal praise. I also feel it's more accessible as a whole, an easier point of entry. Not that there's far to go with only 2 albums.
