Thanks to Conan and Anteater for the recommendation, truly great album:

I know a dude who bloody loves SNZ. Myself, I think they sound pretty cool, but I haven't bothered to check them out beyond some individual stuff.

Camera Obscura - Biggest Bluest Hi Fi

If any of you are twee/folk/pop fans (or Belle and Sebastian fans) and you haven't heard Camera Obscura's album My Maudlin Career...you need to get on that. It is one of the best of last year. I heard it and decided their whole discography was worth checking out. This is their debut and right out of the gate they nail it. It is little too Belle and Sebastian inspired in some parts, but I'd say 3/4 of this album is pure gold.

Royal City's Alone At The Microphone

Alt-country, folky, delightfully twangy, and easily my favourite Royal City album. I find each song to be solid and distinguishable, whereas the tracks on their other albums tend to just mush all together in comparison. But that's probably because I've listened to this one much more, so I guess I'm slightly biased. I've been in love with it ever since my first listen, it never gets old :)

Favourite tracks: Basement Apartment, Bad Luck, Under A Hollow Tree, Daisies.

I'm with you. I really like most of Pink Floyd's stuff, but Piper is absolutely amazing. One of my favorite albums of all time. For me, it's the diamond among the gems of their collection.

As for what I've been digging, I've been listening to a lot of a remix of Fascination Street by The Cure and In & Out of Control by the Raveonettes - picked it up at the show Friday.

Coldplay-A Rush of Blood to the Head

Wow, this has to be the most beautiful album i've ever heard. The songs are very well composed and Chris Martin has an amazing voice, i'm really loving this. :D

^ There are a good four or five Costello albums I'd have over these two myself. Still grand albums though.

Forgot how good this album was. From Copeland's simplistic yet brilliant drumming to Sting's pre-pubescent vocals to some delicious Andy Summers guitar lines it's tops all around. This is why I was gay for The Police. Also digging this weird art I've never seen before.

Never realized how bloody morbid they are, though. Even Reggatta! "So Lonely" "Hole in My Life" "Can't Stand Losing You" "Bring on the Night" "Deathwish" "The Bed's Too Big Without You". Even songs with non-threatening titles, like "Message in a Bottle" or "Truth Hits Everybody" are dark.

If you're enjoying that Japanese jazzy hip-hop sound then you'll definitely want to check out this album and artist:

Kenichiro Nishihara - Humming Jazz

Very awesome chill out jazz hip hop.

Kelpe - Carabio Wechsel

Mmm yeah one of my favorite 09 releases, and a favorite artist discovery of 09 as well. Warm electronic goodness.

Maybe it's just the people I know in person. When I mention The Beach Boys as being a really good band, they think that is weird. They just think of "Surfin' USA" and other poppy songs and probably never heard anything from Pet SounRAB, which is artistically brilliant.

They are like Steven Spielberg or something, highly recognized but not given the "artistic" credits they deserve. That's what I meant I guess.

oh look it's only the Best Live Album Recorded By Anyone Anywhere Ever bar None (from 1980). Highlights include MES telling the bassist to 'fuckin' get it together instead of showing off' when he tries to ruin No Xmas For John Quays , and his response to a heckler: 'Are you doing what you did two years ago? Yeah? Well don't make a career out of it'. hurhurhaha
Stick it to the popstock
