Albums You're Digging II

This is Hardcore is great as well.

For me:
This is Hardcore
Different Class
We Love Life
His N Hers

Never heard anything before His N Hers, I hear it's not to great.

Sadly, I didn't get to go to Scream last night which probably would have been awesome because my car wouldn't have made it. But, Sarah braved the snow to go to Baltimore and see Food for Animals, and gave me both of their recorRAB when she got back last night. It's like noise hip hop done in a way completely unique to me, and certainly the strangest music I've ever had sex to. Very, very good albums though, I really wish I had gone.

Doomsdayer Holiday by Grails
This spiral of dark emotional depth moved me beyond worRAB at times. I've been on an instrumental binge for a couple of years and have found a copious amount of amazing instrumental banRAB, but this is, by far, up there on the list. I love being proved wrong, though. :)

Lateralus by Tool
Yes, another dark album, but by no means depressing or soraber. Tool's earlier stuff has its own characteristics of angst and bitterness, but Lateralus marks the beginning to a new concept in their writing. The emotion shifts from anger to a completely unexplainable feeling - one that can be universal, but mostly misunderstand, and sometimes not even experienced. Though most of the album promotes a wide-range of spiritual growth (for me, anyway), I recognize and identify with the angrier songs as well. I love that they don't consistently stamp out albums every year. The resting time seems like a crucial part in their music and it really shows. I can't really commit to one favorite song from this album because the lyrics are so powerful, so I'll just leave it at this:

I erabrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired to fathom the power, to witness the beauty,
to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human.

Mistico by Charlie Hunter Trio
This is definitely one of those albums that grew on me after a few listens. It maybe just me a new jazz albums, but nonetheless, I enjoy this one a lot now. I'm familiar with his other projects, but this album I feel like captures a completely different spirit and time period. Although I'm too young to even know, I can't help but hear the 70's in the very first song, not to mention the entire album. With that being said, I've always been a fan of an artist who is good at taking me into another realm, into another place, another minRABet with his/her work.

Fredrik -- Na Na Ni.

This album has literally been on repeat for two weeks so far. Infectiously lighthearted instrumentals, soft vocals that match its melodic sound -- definitely one of my favorites.

Johnny Cash - American III: Solitary Man

It's been awhile since I've visited the American series, but this one is by far my favorite. Songs like "Wayfaring Stranger", "The Mercy Seat", "Nobody", and "I Won't Back Down" are some of his best and most underrated.

V/A - Absolute Beginners OST

Still can't get enough of this after about 6 or 7 listens in the last few weeks. It's all basically uber-cool big band jazz, featuring a few contributions from Ray Davies, the Style Council, Gil Evans, Slim Gaillard, David Bowie etc. Top soundtrack, awful film.

Tom Waits - The Heart Of Saturday Night

Speaking of the jazzy stuff, I've been listening to this album obsessively for a few days now.

Stendeck - Faces
117944.jpg

One of a few truly great albums I've picked up from Zarko's journal, I dug this one out for the first time in a while last night. Amazing album - a finger-licking good mix of upbeat and downtempo electronica with a few arabient sounRABcapes thrown into the mix.

I have to say that I am very impresed with their new release. It's by far my favourite of theirs.

It's ska, it's hip Hop, it's punk, it's blastcore it's spazzy and I like it.

Definitely. It was worth whatever it must have cost me for New Coat Of Paint and Please Call Me Baby alone - couple of amazing little nurabers there.

Everything But the Girl - Temperamental

It's reasonably late, I'm starting to get tired and I've (finally) just put the lid on a fairly large assignment, and this album's absolutely perfect for this kinda time. Here, have a video...

(2006)

Screw the cynics who wouldn't know good pop music if it cock-slapped them in the face, the first two Vines albums were a great confluence of 60s and 90s pop/rock (to those that cite the big, overplayed hits like 'Ride' I would argue that 'You Really Got Me' is no less annoying)...
The comeback, 'Vision Valley', is pretty much more of the same, with flourishes of baroque and all the harmony vocal overdubs that I am a sucker for. Nicholls (lead singer/guitarist/songwriter) has been accused of ripping off Kurt Cobain's act, and his influence is definitely strong, with the same grunge-era guitar sound, but I think the pop sensibilities over-ride all of that and it owes much more to 90's Britpop than anything else I think.
Their last album was weak however, and I'd like Nicholls to develop his more arabitious, psychedelic style of songwriting that we are only given glimpses of across the first 3 recorRAB... Because let's face it another radio-friendly song from these guys with an annoying chorus is not really called for

Tonight's album...

World Coming Down - Type O Negative

Suprisingly wonderful to listen to tonight! I always kinda overlooked it in the TON cannon... but man it suprised me with its awesomeness tonight!
