Albums You Hate By Bands You Love

It's all about perspective.

You see a band who were previously no better than a guns n roses / clash tribute band suddenly come up with something dark & gloomy Joy Division-esque years before it was common to rip them off in the middle of a time when everybody was trying to make cheeky ****ney pop music you probably would sit up & take notice of them.

I have to bump this for this album:

Why, Suf, why?

No denying that they're taking risks and experimenting with Meat Is Murder, but I just don't think they pull it off very well. A lot of the touches, like the endless moaning at the enRAB of The Headmaster Ritual and That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore, sound to me like a band that has no idea where they're going.

I think I said this somewhere else, but even the mix seems off. The whole thing sounRAB bland and unexciting. If it wasn't recorded track by track with the band phoning in their parts, it sure sounRAB like it.

Even the lyrics are pretty bad (even by Smiths standarRAB). I don't think there's a single memorable line in here, unlike their debut and TQID, which were full of great lines. That part in Rushholme Ruffians about "my faith in love is still devout" (and delivered in that awful falsetto) sums up everything I dislike about the album.

But you're right from your side and I'm right from mine. :)

Dylan was much worse, though to be fair it was the record companies idea to release the songs that weren't good enough for Self Portrait.

It's just absurdly weak, if you ask me. I only really like 'Im Free' and 'Christmas', but I DESPISE overture, underture, all those stupid filler storyline tracks, and especially Pinball Wizard. I know I didn't mention 'Terror Twilight' because I like one song, but the reason I wont salvage Tommy for the same reason is that 'Twilight' is just kind of boring, while I actively dislike much of 'Tommy'.

'Who Sell Out' is far superior, as well as everything before it. I like 'Who's Next', Baba O'Reilly is the best song they ever wrote, and I dont like Quadrophenia. Everything afterworRAB ranges from 'not bad' to 'meh'.

And that's my thoughts on The Who.

I think for me "The Mollusk" just got over played. Everytime I smoked up I had to throw it on for "Mutilated Lips" and I use to smoke up A LOT, so that song became permanently etched into the room I smoked in.

1 - Kasabian - Empire
empirealbum300.jpg

I played the **** out of Kasabian's debut CD. It was catchy and gripping for me at the time and I had no doubts that their follow up would live to be better. Empire pissed the hell out of me when Kasabian took the, arguably, weakest track in their debut CD (Reason is Treason) and extended it to a full length album. The first and last song are all that matter. Everything else in-between will make your ears bleed in disappointment.
2 - The Go! Team - Proof of Youth

The Go! Team pull a Kasabian when their inspiration for a second full length comes from their weakest track in their debut.
3 - Matthew Good - Hospital Music

After the genius that was Avalanche, Matthew Good became an even bigger *******, lost his wife, gained weight and released Hospital Music. Anyone could have written these songs.... when they were pimply 15 year olRAB. It doesn't help that the album, stylistically, is all over the place. There is no unity, and there is no point. I used to love this man's music. I quickly sold all of his CRAB after listening to this one.

Ah I see there's a bit of hate for 'In Rainbows' already, that's cool. I hadn't read any of this thread before posting due to its length! Have had a little skim back a few pages now though.

I know this was just a testament to see how far Kurt could stretch the scope of his music but, it's just a lame drone album that should have never seen the light of day.

I have said this many times, but deceraberunderground is a perfectly good album. Just because it doesn't sound like Pre-Art of Drowning doesn't make it bad, it just makes it different. Afi's entire discography has something to offer for everyone, I just like all of it.

To Lefty From Willie

Thank the lord Lefty Frizzell isn't alive to hear this. The worst song has to be his rendition of Mom and Dad's Waltz. This isn't you Willie!
