After market amp and Subs?

I have an 06 Accord coupe. I want to install an amp to the stock system since it functions fairly well. I have read that I can buy an amp that has the speaker wire inputs or buy a line converter. My question is: If I splice into the rear speaker wires, does that render them useless or will they still get sound, as well as the amp powered subs?
 
if i understand you correctly then yea it should work. also i think all amps have a spot to put speaker wire if you have a stock headunit.
 
yea, i did this on our jeep, except our back speakers went to hell, but you dont have to cut and splice. most amps have plug-ins for you to put your subs, worse comes to worse, go to best buy and have geek squad wire them for you.
