A few months ago I bought a 9242 and sold my 9200 to a friend. Now about two weeks ago my friend decided he has had enough of Bell due to there poor Csr's and lack of HD ect, ect. So he is now a happy Dish Net customer via a canadian broker, and man is all those HD channels awesome. He must have over a 100 as well a he bought the Vip 722 which I thought it was the same as the 9242 but I was wrong I think he has 55 hours of HD space on there. It makes me think twice about Bell myself. That is a whole nother issue though. Anyway my friend has 3 receiver's my old 9200 and an old 4000 as well as an old 6000 HD receiver, they all have Nagra 3 cards and are working great. So my friend transfered his 9200 and 4000 over to his dads account and canceled his account but Bell wont transfer the 6000 over untill after the 12 of Dec as that is when his billing cycle is and he knows that he has a free month of programming at the end due to the first double bill when you sigh up. He does not care about that extra month as well as he and his dad both have phoned and talked to different supervisors but they won't switch the final receiver over untill after the 12. Is there a way to get around this? Or does he infact have to wait untill then?

I'm guessing he will have to wait. Tell him not to get to used to his brokered illegal Dishnetwork subscription, as a friend of a friend who does high end home theater installs had quite a few angry DirecTv brokered customers who had their accounts deactivated after they were raided.....

He said that the canadian broker used his dads legit Vacation home address and phone # out of Mesa Arizona how I don't know.

if there was a way ''legal'' to do it, bell would`ve done it, you know the csr do not say no for just the pleasure.. the rules are the rules and your friend will have to wait. Policies are made for a reason. that`s my point of view.

Geez... BTV corporate spin again...
Superagent, maybe you should start with taking back this statement

before attempting to talk again on behalf of CSRs and the company?

I would be inclined to just have him pay it. The standard with Bell is 30 days notice.

And even if by some miracle you got somebody at Bell to agree to let him off early, my personal experience tells me it wouldn't get done right, and it would involve more calls; and each time a wait of 6-8 weeks for them to process the credit.

Unfortunatly, one receiver must remain on the account until the account is close.

When there is a date scheduled for a disconnection the account is still considered active. Since client is paying for that period it would be illegal for Bell to remove the equipement from the account, therefore charging your friend for a month of service he can not receive (since equipement has been removed from the account).

The only way to remove the last receiver from the account is to wait until the end of the 30 days period or to call many time at Bell Tv, you might end up talking to an agent who will be willing to immidiatly terminate the account

He can also call technical support saying that he is trying to get channels that appears in red in his guide, that he just got to Florida with his camper and tried the receiver that has been in there since thelast trip. Since Florida is in USA, where EV is forbidden, they are supposed to cancel the account right away. If he called already about transferring earlier EV might find the story fishy and leave the account active

I understand, but it doesn't matter when the broker gets raided/shut down, they will assume ALL accounts with them are shady, and will be cut off. If he had an American address/phone, then why would he even need a broker?
Thats the same question Dishnetwork would ask when they found his info...

I misunderstood what my friend was telling me he said that when he was talking with the canadian broker and was told to use the American addy and bypass the broker alltogether so thats what he did. I thought he had the broker set up the account for him but I was wrong. Also I told him that one receiver must be on the account till it closes on the 12. I still don't get how he can have Dish Net because he has it at his Parents American Vacation home so the address will be legit as will the phone number but my friend is paying for the service on his canadian credit card. I still don't get it. He told me that the canadian broker also sets up Bell & Starchoice for Americans also.

There are lots of brokers selling Dish network and Direct TV in Canada, specifically in the Latino neibourghood

They open an account to a fake or existing adress, even PO Box in some cases

The suscriber receives service here, and in lots of cases doesn't even know it's considered illegal to do so since those brokers target is often new immigrants

The clients pays from a credit card or sends check. Yes checks or credit card is cAnadian, but the law doesn't say it is illegal to pay with Canadian credit card, it's illegal to receive service in USA from Bell TV or receive Dish in Canada

It's been a "don't ask - don't tell" business for a long, long time. Just shows how stupid some artificial barriers can be...

In a similar category: try to explain to a European that a computer can't be used as a satellite receiver in North America.
