Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Vol. 3

I drop in on the Shout! Factory forums every now and then to see if this is getting released and this month it appears there's a development. Brian Ward said that the previous volumes didn't do amazing, but they do want to release it. There are possibilities of it being a release limited to Shout's site. Would you get it at Shout's site if that was the only way? If so tell them!

Thanks for posting this, Josh. I don't even bother checking out those boards anymore since there never seems to be any news. Glad you brought this to my attention!

Heck yeah I'd buy the final volume if it was available exclusively online. Whatever it takes to complete my collection.

Perhaps this would be better suited for the DVD forum, though.

I have to wonder why they didn't just do a full set like the UK did. It's missing Christmas Blast but is otherwise complete. I know more volumes hopefully means more cash made but as this shows it's also a massive risk for fans.

This. That's pretty much why. They could risk the fans not having the whole series or risk losing a lot on expensive sets that don't sell as well as they'd like.

Again, Shout's budget doesn't really allow for complete series releases of anything that ran for more than one season, and even then. Besides, volumes have worked out fine for the most part so let's just hope this last one gets released.

Well, AoStH technically only ran one season, but you're right. Shout can't afford to release sets that are larger than about 26 episodes (with some slight exceptions).

Besides, who would buy a 65 episode set when the people who would want it already own 2/3rds of it? That's like what was going on with Fraggle Rock for a while, the people who had bought the previous releases felt cheated out that they would have to buy everything over again just to get the final batch of episodes.

Alright, great news! Brian's awesome for pushing for this and asking the fans. It's great when a consumer's voice is heard and plans come to fruition. Can't wait to see the cover art. 2010's looking like it'll be a good year. ;)

Just remember, though. This, along with a select group of other titles will only be available directly from Shout! Factory's website. The article also mentions that these will be factory produced releases, and not MOD titles.

Also, as PC! pointed out, this means that every (American produced) Sonic series will finally be released in their entirety. Now I wonder if other DIC series (that they still have the rights to) will be given similar treatment (they once mentioned that the contract from before the merger still exists)...

Well, the OVA and all of Sonic X* have also been released on DVD in the US, so even in general, every Sonic cartoon will be available in its entirety.

Definitely buying volume 3, even though I don't own volume 2 yet. Being sold directly from their website, the production numbers will be much lower, so I should snatch it while I can.

* - Unless you count the fact that it's edited, but that's a whole separate can of worms altogether.

They share those rights with Shout! Factory. N-Circle only releases single DVDs with select episodes and no extras. S!F on the other hand releases actual season sets, many with extras.
