Actors Made For The Part.

Some actors seem to be made for an exact part, as if all their career is leading up to that point. Here's some I can think of :

Stephen Fry as Oscar Wilde in 'Wilde'

Ian Holm as J.M.Barrie in 'J.M.Barrie And The Lost Boys'

Kurt Russell as Elvis in 'Elvis'

Helen Mirren as the Queen in 'The Queen'

Rhys Ifans as Peter Cook in 'Not Only But Also'

David Hemmings (loosely based on) David Bailey in 'Blow Up'

Geoffrey Rush as Peter Sellers in 'The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers'

Can anyone else think of any more 'made for the part' actors?

...whilst you've all listed actors portraying fictional characters. The only reason that you think that they are made for the part is because you haven't seen anybody else playing them (except Brian Cox as Hannibal Lector). If Errol Flynn, or Douglas Fairbanks, or Cary Grant, had played Rhett Butler then you might now be saying that he was perfect in the part.

I'm not saying these actors aren't great in the parts that they played, but another actor may have portrayed the part just as well, if not better.

Definite miscasting - Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code - should have been Sam Neill. When I read the book I thought Robert would be ideally portrayed by Sam Neill.

I agree. Just because an actor plays a part so well that you think he's been building up to all his life, doesn't mean that another actor wouldn't have played it equally well. I thought Liam Neeson was amazing as Oscar Schindler, until I saw some photos of him and then thought Jeremy Irons would have been a better choice in term of acting ability and looks. Having said all that, Jack Nicholson does appear to have been born to play the Joker.

Back onto real-life portrayals, and two that spring to mind are Ben Kingsley as Ghandi and Richard Attenborough as Father Christmas.

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, and personally I love Peter Ustinov as Captain Blackbeard. Hugh Grant in many many roles (they all appear to be the same character).
I agree about Anthony Hopkins too. Scary!

Definatly I just hope they use him to his full potential in the next film.

Speaking of Alan (and no I'm not a huge fan girl where he's concerned) I thought he was fantastic as the Sherriff in Robin Hood: Prince of thieves hell he was the best thing about a otherwise horrid film.
