Hello,
I've been getting more low back pain in the last few months. For years I've had low back pain, but recently it's been getting worse. Xrays were taken a few years ago, and there was no sign of disc deterioration, so at this point, I'm assuming it could be a bulging disc. I've had physical therapy, and the therapist says it's from l5/s1. I haven't had an MRI yet.

PT did nothing. They had me do a bunch of stretching and traction, but it didn't work, and I stretched religously. So at this point I was thinking of going to see a chiropractor. If the chiro can't help, then I was go to try accupuncture. Has anyone had success with either? Either way, I will press my GP for a MRI, so I can find out what is going on, but at this point, I'm assuming a bulging disc. I'm 43 and pretty active.

Thanks. :D

Before you do accupuncture or chiropractic care be sure to get a full evaluation by an orthopedic spine surgeon and/or neurosurgeon. They don't only do surgery, and can guide you as to what types of care may work for you. There are cases where chiropractic can be risky depending on what the MRI findings show.

Hi

I have always been told not to go to a chiropractor but i did have accupunture.

The accupunture helped my Sciatica but did nothing for my actual back pain.
In the end i had to stop going for physio as my back hurts when being pressed or manipulated.

I hope you find something that helps

You definately want to get an MRI. When my L5S1 disc was herniated my chiropractor would not touch me and my pain med dr said NO to chiropractor. You do not want to be manipulated if the disc is herniated. As SpineAZ said get an mri and see a spine specialist, either ortho or nuero surgeon. The surgeon will read the mri do an evaluation and suggest treatments. If PT did not work there are other options before surgery. Make sure you find out if it is your disc you could get nerve damage if you injure it further. I have had a successful fusion and I am very active and 46. There are treatments and you can go back to being active just guard it now and take it easy until you find out what is wrong.
good luck

I am searching for help also, I had ankle replacement and since starting back to walking my back and knee hurt so bad. The chiropractor said one hip higher and seeing xrays, it is. he put an insert in the shoe on the lower foot. I am up less than five minutes and am hurting so bad I have to sit or lay. The chiropractor has not helped me. Good news is, my ankle doesn't hurt.
I don't know anything about accupuncture but I may look into that.

Acupuncture is amazing for back pain. I just found out I have l5 s1 problem too through MRI.

Chiropractic exacerbated my symptoms. I would be very careful with that. Acupuncture did help ... some but what completely turned things around for me was Prolotherapy. Amazing stuff!

Prolotherapy is at least as old as Hippocrates. It causes growth formation of new ligament tissue in areas where there is weakness or other problems. A natural dextrose (sugar water) solution is injected into the area. This causes localized inflammation which increases blood supply and flow of nutrients and stimulates the tissue to repair itself. You could do your own research as well.

From all the problems with surgeries that I read here, this is certainly less invasive and ... it works!
