I was recently given an A60 with a Virgin PAYG SIM with no credit. It worked perfectly using either that SIM or the SIM from my Orange Motorola - ie no locked problems. Yesterday I switched on and as soon as I had entered my SIM code and pressed OK I held the # key to lock the keyboard before it had finished booting - (on my Motorola I lock keys while it is seeking the network regularly without any problem) This has confused the phone which now simply asks for the SIM card even though either of the two is inserted - and I have checked the contacts. I have tried *#9999# then call (factory reset) but nothing happens. I have also tried switching on while holding * and #. Again, no joy.
Does anybody have a solution which does not involve cutting pcb tracks and downloading a new eprom image? *#0606# info gives "Unbarred" 5 times. Software version is 27 2004-07-08. There must be a magic *# code ther somewhere!!

I guess that it is time to give up.

The data cable that I have is a usb to com port converter with the box in the middle of the cable with a switch L - R and no led's to show data transfer. The cable has appeared to work fine with Siemens updating software but with Joker to read flash I just get the progress bar forever filling and emptying. If I try using Freia then it tells me that the boot code is not running. I have disabled the firewall and I have tried the switch at L or at R with no apparent difference. *#06# and info tells me under "acc" - "plugged in" so the usb cable is recognised. Also there are no problems in device manager.

I guess that the phone needs to go to the big grave in the sky

Has nobody any ideas? The phone worked fine with all options available on both the nil credit Virgin card and my Orange card before I hit that pesky # key while it was thinking after accepting my PIN on the orange card. The Virgin card had no PIN set.

My SIM is not locked because it works fine in my Orange phone.

...you have the USB to COM data cable (using with phone manager, not with Joker or Freia). For this software (Joker or Freia) you need to have serial cable C55 ; DCA500 or USB to COM DCA510. Write code from your cable and I will try to search how to modify to working with flash/ unlocking functions (not only data transfer).

...connect your phone to with data cable, open Joker, go to Service menu, click on "Info" and post saved log file. Your phone need to be opened. Log file you finded in the "Logs" folder.

Now I understand more - thanks Dagos!

I bought the cable on Ebay it has no markings other than the following label on the phone connection:

DATA CABLE
For SIM SL55
S/N : WT048000317

That's the only marking other than on the box in the middle of the cable which has the legend USB Interface Data cable and L R by the two positions of the switch.

It seems odd that it works with phone manager but not with Joker or Freia?

I have searched Google for information without success!

Thanks again

Ron

...or construct yourself one!
See on my posts regarding to schematics for DCA500 (or DCA510).

if you insert this cable in your phone and push "*#06# and info tells" appair "plugged in DCA510" ???
See on the USB part what write (red color). If write:
USB DATA CABLE
MODEL: KQ-U8A
NO: WT048000317
you have analog cable with DCA510
Write please the all codes from your cable ( from the USB part, box part and Lumberg Slim connector).
BTW: this is the cable?

...or this?

It does not really look like either one. It has no markings anywhere except what I have already mentioned in earlier post. Inside the box the PCB has the legend KQ0810. PCB is mostly empty a switch a chip SILABS - CP2101 - DCNA2J - 0508 and 2 capacitors C3 and C4 - no diode and no resistors.
This is cable I bought: - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=170222520126&Category=42417&_trksid=p3907.m29

Added later: *#06# gives
Acc : plugged in
DSP P: 0023/0011 ROM
0400 General
3C20 setup
2CC0 Netwrok
9560 Battery
6269 Diagnosis

Then Info again gives a self check which all works OK!

Thanks again! Sorry, I have been away for a few days.
I am waiting for my data cable. I have also downloaded joker.
I have read lots on this forum about cutting tracks to unlock this phone. As the phone was not locked would I need to do this to flash it with new firmware if that has got corrupted? All I did to crash the thing was to try to lock the keys while it was in the process of accepting the PIN code on my Orange SIM.
I have ordered USB cable. Should I have got serial RS232?

...Joker working with the serial cable (like DCA500 or china serial cables) or USB to serial cable (like DCA510).Baudrate used is 115200bauts. Not working with the "pure" USB cable DCA540 (also, this cable not working on A60 phone). You need only to post this log file to know what is happened (phone locked with network, customised...).

...OK,
Ihave solution in your case. You have the cable with cp2101 chip. To working with Joker, Freia, SST or Papuautils, you need to insert two resistor (10KOhms): pin5 -> GND and pin7-> GND on the Lumberg Slim connector. In attachemment you have schematic for this cable. You will use for the data transfer with 921600 bauds and for flash/unlock with 115200 bauds.
That is...

USB Data cable now arrived and working. Log file from Joker is:

Obviously, I have overwritten IMEI number rather than posting on web!

If I need to reflash can you let me know how to do it and where to get relevant file.

Thanks

LATEST SITUATION DIRE !!

I have flashed the firmware using A60_270400_service.exe (not Joker) which seemed to work fine with no hitch or error message. The progress bars showed the flash being erased and then rebuilt.
BUT -- After the update the phone is still in exactly the same state, wanting a SIM card even though it is in the phone. The new log file is:

This log file looks almost the same as the previous file. A change is in EEFULL Info free buffer and th ecurrent battery voltage.

What should I try next? It seems like a parameter problem that is being held across a firmware update. I did remove the SIM while doing the update.

HELP PLEASE !!

...hmmm,
in your phone, seems to somme fields is corrupted (bootarea). You need to fullflash your phone (not to make the firmware upgrade/downgrade) with the write bootcore option.
Go to http://www.gsmsimlocking.com/Gsm/index.php?dir=Joker_UnOfficial_Support/A60/ and download "A60_16_fullflash_tr.rar".
user: gsmsimlocking
password: freefornow
Fullflash with Joker and uncheck "Protect Bcore" option from the flash menu. Unlock your phone and I'm hope to be working after
MAKE FULLFLASH BACKUP FIRST FROM YOUR PHONE!!!
dagos

Thanks, Dagos. I haver been in ****** for a couple of weeks (without a working phone!) and have returned to find your post. I have downloaded the file and unpacked to a bin file and started full flash with Protect Bcore unchecked and leaving Backup F.S.EEP and Protect Fac.EEP checked. I received the message "Open File", with path to bin file, then Full Flash file info: FlashID: 0001/220C SIEMENS A60 Sw 16 lg4 RealLgPack: lg4 Start

Half an hour later the Joker progress bar is still running without any apparent progress! Have I got the switch on my USB cable interface the right way? It is at L, not at R. Or am I not waiting for long enough?
