A2DP Overrated?

nokia obviously sees it as a luxury item, that's why the 8800/01 and one other clamshell are the only ones with the option in the first place

AVRCP isn't supported by almost all current Nokia phones, but the itech r35 and some other models are able to use ff/rewind. The r35 will get you a2dp on the n93 tho, which is more than most other headsets.

I don't agree with your assertion that one sacrifices a LOT by listening to mp3's on one's phone rather than an ipod or iaudio or take-you-pick. I've been using my Nokia 6682 as a music player during the work week 'cause I don't want to have to carry my ipod around with everything else. Using the same earphones the sound is perhaps slightly inferior but not a LOT and certainly not enough to notice generally.

In any event, your unstated assertion that an iaudio playing mp3 files is the way to go for audiophiles is funny. No true audiophile (audio snob?) would be caught dead listening to his/her music in mp3 format. The mp3 compression is lossy and the resulting files always sound thinner and inferior to the original CD track. Obviously, if you rip your CD tracks using the highest possible bitrate you can mitigate this to some degree but there's always going to be information thrown away. The TRUE audiophile-quality mp3 player is - at least with regard to present technology - vaporware.

I like iaudio players, by the way...

I think battery is a big reason why the performance is being held back....as good perforrmance will obviously drain batteries very fast.

I read that a University is working on a wireless charging system......if they manage to do that, i think ALOT of tech problems would be resolved.

I'll get my iTech R35 in a few days so I can comment then. My normal earphones are shure e2c, but I think the limitations will be the n73, not a2dp or the earphones.

stop pause play functions are on most a2dp headsets....

sharp 903 music quality isn't as good as you make it sound..lacks bass.. the n91 and w850 pack a better sound IMO

Spirals,

Maybe you can report back on the quality. I also bought the new R35 hoping it would work on my E70. Well, the music keeps dropping off. I am disappointed.

Is somebody using the Itech R35 with a nokia N or E series? I'm thinking of getting one for my e61, but don't want to waste my money if it's gonna sound like crap.. In the previous page there was a guy using it with an e70, and it seems it doesnt work well. Anybody else?

I got one, it sounds ok. The music is kind of thin on higher registers because of a2dp. The bass on my sony ex-71s and e2cs was pretty good tho. Not too bad compared to the built-in headset for the n73 imo.

Of course. Wireless headphones are for people who don't care about quality.

The only day I'll ever consider one is if the audio is losslessly compressed and transmitted and then decoded by the headphone and run through a quality DAC and a quality amplification stage. The odds of that happening are very low. Even if it did they would be pretty huge headphones to incorporate all that equipment. So I'll keep running a wire to my phones.

I find this topic very interesting, if i may add my thoughts.. Well i use A2DP with my phoone, and i enjoy it alot, mine arent nearly as big as moto headsets or anything like that.. but its true.. the quality isnt par to quality wired headphones.. But they are impressive for sure.. And to really think about it, this is fairly new, and not every phone on the market has them. So i think within the next year or so it will improve greatly.. I recommend them, if i want to hear true quality audio then ill listen to my bang & olufsen system. For a quick trip around the block or riding the train its plenty good. just my 2 cents.

They seem nice, but i wouldnt want to walk around with squares hanging on my ear. Ill wait for a new model to come out from them.

let me just comment on this, whoever uses cell phone for music is always sacrificing ALOT because the quality is just not up to par with good mp3 players like iaudio x5 (imo is the best one out there). Unless you are using a phone like sharp 903 which the audio quality completely blow away ipod but still not as good as my x5. Cellphone used as mp3 is for convinience not for audiophile.

;8303232']i took the jump and got a bt a2dp headset a while back... the gimmick is nice, the ability to listen to music without wires... but the thing is, as of now all the headsets are huge over the head headphones... the ideal solution would be two pieces of in ear earbuds, attached by one wire that goes around your neck and thats it...

a2dp takes up alot of battery life, and phones arent that great with mp3 playback + battery in the first place... the headphones available for a2dp are mid range at best, and on top of that, they cost as much as some of the higher end earphones on the market today...

id perfer a 3.5mm jack over a2dp on a phone atm...

listening to music through a2dp IMO sucks because of 2 main reasons

a.) bluetooth wireless stereo headset is another device that needs charging meaning you got so much to worry about the battery of the phone and now the headset OUCH.......

b.) it is good in a decent distance but sucks *** when used in jogging or exercise because the sound will start to skip

agree with the first one, but my battery is still good with about an hour or two of bluetooth music. So i guess it depends on the phone, as for the second one your headphones shouldnt skip. I work out as well, do multiple exercises and never skips on me. What headset are you using?
