A2DP Overrated?

I've been hearing ALOt about it and how people want A2DP so much, I think it's overrated. Here is the reason why.
Audio on the phone can be for two reason: Music/audio and voice.

I think for voice it would suffice to be mono. But for audio, and for best quality no wireless tech is enough....there just isn't as much bandwidth or the signal strength is some how not ideal enough giving you sometimes interference or range.
So in my opinion for music (one of the biggest reasons for A2DP) a wireless headphone in current state of technology will never reach the quality of good quality WIRED headset like SHURE E4C, E500 or ETYmotic ER4p.
Ofcourse some might not agree, but get the best A2DP hearing device and put it against these midrange earphones and I'm you will reach to the same conclusion.

Ofcourse there is the argument about wireless being more convenient, but I think music quality should be number one.

what do you guys think?

99.99% of phones do not have 3.5 jack for a headset like and Etymotics. Even if they did or if you use and adapter the cheap azz audio chip in the mobiles phones will not drive it properly. So A2DP is the only game in town for the time being.

Blue,

I used to use my Shure 4c with my Itech R35 for my Palm 650 (it does have a software to enable A2DP), so I do get the best of both worlds. Some may say that is still wired. I consider that more convenient as I can handle my phone without anywires. I am amazed that the sound quality is awesome. It is able to stream up to 320kbs.

It doesn't. I think only those who have experience with A2DP and stereo BT headsets should be commenting to avoid confusion regarding the quality of A2DP.

I think a2dp headsets are like bluetooth headsets when they started. They may not have the quality now, but as more phones get a2dp it will probably be as good as a wired set for clarity and volume.

The wireless aspect is the most intriquing quality. Nokia's pop port adaptors always come loose in the pocket, so what good area pair of shure's if they loose connection ever other step?

A2DP compresses the audio for transmission. There are some quality losses right there, although if it's noticeable depends on your ears and the headphones.

Good point! There isnt enough bandwidth for even high quality mp3 at 320kbps , let alone an uncompressed wav file. A2dp is limited in bandwidth thus even more compression takes place, like we need moqe

i am using some pioneer noise cancelling in-ear headphones on my N80 and i can say quality is comparable if not better than an ipod. it's just not that loud but i cannot listen to the ipod on max volume with these headphones anyway cause it hurts

Bluetooth 2 EDR theoretically has enough bandwidth for uncompressed 44.1kHz 16bit stereo but I don't think A2DP has been changed to include umcompressed streams. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I disagree to an extent. While I'm sure A2DP headphones may not quite yet be up to par with wired headphones, it'll only be a matter of time until they're there. I receive my SE HBH-DS970 so I'll comment on the quality after I've used it for some time.

However, there is a much bigger picture here that people aren't seeing. A2DP can be implemented to control many different things. For instance, car stereos are now coming with A2DP. I don't know about you but I like the idea of streaming audio straight from my phone to my car stereo. In any case it's only a matter of time until more electronic devices start applying this technology. It can only get better.

i guess ill hold off on getting my A2DP headset. they all look so good!
in any case, ill have to try one eventually i guess...my SE K790a is on order now.

yeah it is so overated... i hate getting into my car plugging my phone in to my head unit. then getting out of my car and plugging my stereo headset in...

oh wait i dont have to as i have k800
MEX-BT5000 bluetooth car stereo (i can also play movies from my vaio laptop and have the audio play through the car speakers.)
oh and my ds970 when i am out of the car...

quality is the best i can expect from mp3 audio. it is not as good as wav files played through the car but i understand that...

oh and i have a 12inch sub and set of alpine splits all powered by alpine amp.

i love a2dp.. it has removed some of the cables in my life.. quality is up there too.

IMO the only time you might notice a difference is when compared to high end setups in a quiet environment. Even then you'll probably need to know what to listen for. Background noise and source quality are way more apparent. In other words in a car it won't make any difference as long the connection is solid.

interesting......
although the specs indicate it performs a bit worse, but I don't want to even want to start with the battery life.
