A great speech from John K.

To be fair, the guy is genuinely talented, and even right about a number of things, but everytime I see writings of his posted on the 'net they give me the urge to shove a pie in his face. The man is just such an egocentric jerk, and while he certainly had an impact on the industry for sure, he way overexxagerates ("Ren and Stimpy" didn't start the trend of creator-driven shows. For one thing, when it premiered there was already a creator driven show running by a certain Matt Groening. RAS was a big influence too, but it can't lay the claim to entirely starting the trend. The trend was already slowly starting). He also needlessly insults an animator who professes to be a fan and wrote his piece as kindly as possible as "retarded" simply because he disagrees.

This may just be a relatively low moment for Kricfalusi, but it does seem to, unintentionally, tell an awful lot about why some people at Nickelodeon may have had trouble working with him. And that's coming from me, someone who rarely finds reason to side with big business executives.
 
Darn right. That's what popped out to me. At the time John K. was shipping around Ren and Stimpy, Nickelodeon was preparing its own cartoon program and LOOKING for original cartoons. John did not simply walk in there, blow them off their chairs, and make them say "Wow, he's changed our entire outlook on life!" He was simply what they were looking for at the time.
And again, cartoons were already coming back. You had Disney's new renaissance going on, and then The Simpsons, and only THEN did we get R&S.

For someone knowledgeable enough to get to do commentaries for Looney Tunes DVDs, John showed here he knows nothing about the industry he works for!
 
I don't get how some of you don't enjoy hearing snippets from John K. He's like a mad genius. It's so hard sometimes to tell if he's right on the mark, or off his rocker. That's where the fun is.


And as for his comments. Some of them maybe true, I remember hearing somewhere that he had a role in W.A.C. But I think he's downplaying how much the talent of individual creators in making succesful shows. Afterall not all the W.A.C shorts were brilliant....
 
His influence is what matters, not money, though I really don't like his style or imitators. If I could change the world and help many make money and I wouldn't get a cent I'd be happy because I brought a positive change, joy is always better than money. I also think that John k. accuses people of copying way too much, he'll immediatly find a supposed rip-off of another characters design but he won't seek out evidence or proof, look at this whole rant of his! He sees himself as the man responsible for bringing cartoony toons back! If anything he may have been but with shows like Mighty B or Chowder he should be ashamed more than proud, no offense to Chowder or Mighty B fans.
 
I respect the man for his quality work over the years (not all of his work is quality though). I also believe he was one of the key players if not the key player for putting creator driven series on the map. I also agree with his that the creator driven shows of today are pretty awful usually but that's more having to do with the channel's head honcho's getting in the way of the creativity and making sure everything is sedated for the most part.

He shouldn't dog on all other animation like that though. Nor claim he is the reason why there were good cartoons after Ren and Stimpy.

I did that just in case, I find Chowder and Mighty B to be mediocre cartoons that merely immitate John k. I'm aware that Chowder has a suprisingly big fanbase so like most anime fans its easier to accidently post flame bait.
 
Chowder: Obnouxious idiotic characters, butt\flactuation humor, Chowders more Spongbob than anything.

Mighty B: Classical music for some scenes, gross out shots, John k's drawing style but more flat, idiotic characters, sterotypes, crude backgrounds.
 
It should be known that John K. is actually giving "special thanks" in the creation of the show, and that quite a bit of the crew once worked on Ren and Stimpy.
 
Only in the first episode, but yeah, John K. (along with Stephen Hillenburg) did get a "special thanks" credit.

And while we're at it, much of the Chowder crew (including the creator himself) are SpongeBob alumnis.
 
Well, that explains the similarites, without John atleast the expressions in Mighty B seem less artificial, in Johnks drawings his characters would some times have an expression that would seem forced, mostly the 20th time that one of them looks at the camera, not to mention that nearly all of his characters over-react expression-wise to the simplest of things, and unlike that classics that he attempts to copy Johns expressions aren't funny.
